The NBA season is winding down. The playoffs are near. Lots of blockbuster trades were made the past few weeks. Some have been good, some have been disastrous.
The Phoenix Suns have acquired the legendary Diesel by the name of Shaquille O'Neal. But they haven't been winning. The Dallas Mavericks traded away for a legendary point guard named Jason Kidd. They've had a mediocre record since.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been on a roll, even without their star center Andrew Bynum, because of a blockbuster trade which netted them Pau Gasol.
I don't remember a more exciting NBA season as this one. Normally, basketball is a sport you get excited about during the playoffs. Now, it's been an exciting regular season.
Have the trades made the season more interesting or is it the parity amongst the teams? What's your opinion? Or maybe this all bores you and you're biting your nails until football season!?!?....

It's the parity in the Western Conference. There are eight good teams and everyone has a legitimate chance to advance to the NBA Finals. Obviously the Spurs are the defending champs, but the Lakers are tough with Kobe and Gasol, the Hornets have been the surprise team this year, and the Rockets are on a massive winning streak. Each matchup will appear to be exciting and closely contested. The trades do provide interesting news stories, but only add to the fierec competition already present in the NBA. And you can't forget the East with the Pistons and Celtics challenging each other for conference supremacy and the best record in the NBA.

This season it seems no one team can dominate or run away with the championship. Everyone seems to be in the same class. The West isn't dominant as in the past. They certainly are not a shoe-in to win the title. You mentioned the Pistons and Celtics in the East. The western team who makes it to the Finals this year won't have a cake walk. It will definitely be an exciting championship series.
I look forward to a Laker/Celtic Finals. Won't that be exciting?

I would love to see the Lakers versus San Antonio for the Western Conference Championship series. They are the top two teams in the West, without a doubt. And on the Eastern front, I'd like to see their top two teams - Detroit versus Boston.
I would love to see the Finals with any of the above mentioned teams. Whether it be the Lakers versus Detroit, Boston versus San Antonio or the old Laker/Celtic rivalry. A rematch of Detroit versus San Antonio wouldn't be a bad one, either.

I think the West doesn't have a clear-cut favorite to win it all, but have more talent in their 8 potential playoff teams than in the East. I still feel there is a big difference between the Pistons and Celtics, and the third best team in the East. Which conference matchups and Finals matchup would you most like to see?

All those trades can be known if they are really good or not comes the playoffs. You are definitely right about your observation about O'neal, Jason Kidd, and Pau Gasol. They might be in the feeling-out process right now. I hope my San Antonio Spurs will rekindle the Fire in the Heart of a Champion!

The Spurs slowed down mid-season, but they are on a winning streak again. This is the perfect time to have all cylinders pumping for you. I don't think you have much to worry about. With a healthy cast of Duncan, Parker and Ginobli, this team is still the one to beat in the West. After all, they are the defending champs.
