When is solving a Rubik's cube important?

Just last week, my brother brought home a Rubik's cube. He told me solving the cube is an epidemic in their school. I am 21 and I thought maybe it's about time to learn how to do it. Of course at first I can't do it (since I am kind of impatient with this kind of puzzle) so I watched a tutorial online. After getting the techniques and stuff, I kept on doing it again and again until I almost got bored because now I think it is really easy. Not that I want to try the 5x5 cube this time but I'm just wondering when is solving it relevant?

I think the only reason it could be considered important is to see how well you are able to solve puzzles. I mean ANY kind of puzzles. Not everyone is able to solve puzzles without going and looking up how to do it. When someone is able to do it on their own, that is a special skill.

I agree! The whole process of solving it is painstaking. Several times I tried not to cheat but I just can't do it. Applause for everyone who did it all by themselves!!

for me, there is no such thing as solving a rubiks cube at an important time. playing with the rubiks cube is so great. your mind is exercised.
aside from solving the 3x3, i can also solve the 2x2, 4x4, 5x5 and the megaminx. =)
