Should some cartoons be banned?

As a parent to a baby boy I shudder to think of what television will be like when he gets older. I noticed my brother taped some cartoons off of the cartoon network channel and I thought I would check them out because they had strange titles. Boy I wish I hadn't they were the most pornographic and violent cartoon I ever seen in my life. It was hard for me to believe that the cartoon network channel would air this crap. I mean this the channel where bugs bunny and scooby is sometimes aired. I shudder to think what would happen if a little kid woke up and started watching that filth. Am I the only ones that think cartoons like this should be banned?

I am complitly agree with you mollyrose. as I also having children on my home and I have to keep a tough eye on what they are watching. as I got to know some names which are being popular in kids e.g. shinchan, gitaretsu and many others (pardon the spelling. I remember I used to watch Disney when I was a kid (and am admitting it, I still watch it at the age when I should make cartoons) and am shocked to see the things these cartoons are teaching to our children, specially shinchan. they learn by watching all the filthy acts shinchan does, like commenting on his mom's body parts, can't name everything as it's a public forum. but where the hell is those persons who band tare zameen pe in gujrat and aaja nach le in almost whole nation? are they blind or what? they should see these cartoon specially with their kids. only then they'll get to know what is happening .

These kinds of cartoons are for adults, so parents should be cautious in what their kids are watching these days. I baby sit kids and i make sure they don't watch these kind of cartoons coz they corrupt kids minds at a very early age.

No, you're not alone... I agree they should be banned. I'm not even too keen on kids watching the Simpsons, but they love it. I hope they don't reinact them when they go to school! Brightest Blessings.

No I don't think they should be banned. Some people like them and just because some people don't doesn't mean they should be banned. If you don't like them don't watch, that is what the remote is all about. If I want to watch that is my right as it is your right not to watch. As for kids watching that is where parents should be responsible. It is not society that should be protecting peoples kids it should be up to the parents to educate and keep an eye on what their children watch.

If you see "Adult Swim" in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, you can be sure that the programming is not for children. I think if your brother recorded something during the day, it would probably be kid-safe. I usually scan things that someone records for us, just to be on the safe side. As for banning cartoons? No. I think it is a parent's duty to be aware of what their children are watching. If it's not suitable, then block the channel or get rid of the DVD/VHS recording.

They shouldnt be banned but they should have thier own channel. The adult cartoons on cartoon network are shown between 11pm and 4am and I do not let my kids watch. They also let you know when they are coming on because they call it adult swim and it is posted on the bottom left hand side of your screen. Television gets worse and worse because more things are considered aceptable and its just gonna get worse.

Things change. Bugs Bunny was once on the borderline to being banned. Looking back, it's amazing Bugs made it: violence without consequence and all. Today cartoons are pushing the envelope further and further, just as every entertainment media is. It is our responsibility, as parents, to make sure our kids are watching what we want them to see, until they are old enough to decide for themselves. It is certainly not a country or society's place to ban creative entertainment. It is controversial, but possible, that the more restrictions placed on kids growing up, the more likely they are to experiment out-of-control later on. As a society, the "morality" of the 50's and 60's may have therefore created the escalating craziness since. If that's the case, watch everything you can with your kids, explain why things are "wrong" and teach them to make good decisions, instead of making all their decisions for them. That's one weird way of looking at it! ;)

I agree with you. Children love to watch cartoon shows and those who are airing cartoon shows especially cartoon network should be aware of that. There are cartoon shows that are not suitable for kids. Some are funny but are so violent. The networks that cater to children should be more responsible for the shows they air. TV shows especially cartoons have great influence on our children. Cartoon shows that are "not suitable for kids" should be banned.
