to let us know we're getting a rebate? OMG, what a tremendous waste. And what about those that filed BEFORE this economic stimulus package was approved? Do they then need to refile?Do you think it was necessary to let everyone but those that earn less than $3k a year (often the homeless, who don't even HAVE an address?), illegal immigrants (who shouldn't be here or eligible for tax refunds), and singles earning more than $87k/married couples earning more than $150k? Sheesh, let's just waste MORE money! Here's the link to where I read this story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080307/ap_on_go_ot/dear_taxpayer

No I don't think that people who earn less than $3 k a year should get it, illegal immigrants definitely not, and people who make tons of money - why would they need it in the first place? Why would you need to refile if you already had filed? Wasn't it for people who file their taxes for the year who get the rebate? I however am looking forward to a nice rebate.

The Duh! of the World - The big Duh! of the entire economic stimulus package...does anyone in the government ever actually THINK something through?
What I meant about refiling is for those who ARE eligible (like my friend with 4 children) that filed based on their final W2 for the year (which many people do). She filed about 6 weeks prior to the stimulus package was approved. I guess the head of the Federal Reserve was asleep on the job--this recession was in the works for quite some time (I mean, hello? Look at the holiday numbers in retailing! That's a GREAT indicator). And most of those people won't even know HOW to file at 1040X (amended return) for this year. I guess Bush just 'thunk it up' without thinking it out...
