Someone called me a writer on Helium and I had to think about it, but after awhile, it grew on me. Writers were what other people did, but now I'm writing. So yeah, I guess in a small way, I'm becoming a writer. So when did you first feel like a writer and at what level do you consider yourself? What things have you written? Just small stuff on Mylot and some articles on Helium, so I'm just starting out, that's what I consider myself. And you?

Maybe there are some sites in your native language that can help you. You are writing a little here, and eventually you will get cash, take care.

First noticed I had an interest in writing when in college. The professor told me I had a wild imagination. I do not consider myself a writer even though I've written a few very small articles for Hubpages.com. I can't always express my feelings on paper, so to speak. In other words, I can tell a funny or crazy story much better than actually writing about a story or event. I consider myself a novice but enjoy practicing my limited skills on myLot.

It sounds like speaking and storytelling are stronger mediums of communication for you. I used to record some of my stories and then write them later. Helps fill the gap between what I write and say. Also I try to get some more words in to help with the difference between speech and written material. Take care

Sometimes reading books about how to unblock blockages can help. I read one and it helped for awhile. Then I went backwards for awhile, think I'll reread it again. Take care

I agree with Writersedge, I need some inspiration to be able to let loose an write something thoughtful. My all time favorite is Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers but for women definately;
PEN ON FIRE: a busy woman's guide to igniting the writer within, by Barbara Demarco-Barrett
This book is awesome, it talks of all strange habits writers have, focus less on technique but on habits, its fun and just makes me want to write when im done with another chapter. I will definately end up reading again.

I suppose the first time I felt like a writer was when I wrote a fanfic and someone commented that they liked it.
However now I feel like a writer when an article of mine gets picked on Helium marketplace, or on Constant Content, or when I get approved for Upfront on Associated Content or when people comment on my blogs.
Am I a great writer? Nah. But sometimes I feel like one ^^. I'm a writer at heart.

Write something for AC and submit it for upfront. If it gets approved it's almost as if it were "picked"
Or write something, put it on Constant Content (or Daily Article) and hope someone buys it. Mine weren't bought until like a month later and I put them at 1$ and 2$, but I was still happy to find out.

I dont like the pressure of feeling like I have to make that score everytime I write but if I could have a few out of the bunch I feel that would be more satisfying but then what do I know, i havent tried, is it addictive.
I never heard of helium or until this discussion and have been looking for a website where i can try a few of my article ideas out. I have them lying around everywhere, in notebooks of course.

when i wrote my first novel and self-published it on lulu.com, the whole process was long, a lot of work and stressful. when i finished it, i felt accomplished, confident and powerful. plus, many people i know have told me that they liked my writing style and they think my writing is entertaining. that was encouragement for me to continue and just do it. and when many people who don't even know each other kept saying the same thing, i took it as a sign that this is it for me. and i went for it.

Wow! So you're published, that is a lot of work and very cool. I'm not sure what Mylot rules are right now, I think you're supposed to put one of these links on your profile page. Like I have one to my writing. You may want to review it so we don't get things deleted in the future. But I will have to check it out and thanks for writing. Maybe I'll self-publish someday. Take care.

I have written two books, both as yet unpublished, and writing has become a compulsion that can't be denied. In my own mind I am a writer, but I don't feel comfortable admitting it to others. Perhaps I need to prove to myself that I am worthy of the title.
Proof positive? Publication.

Are you published yet? I think everyone has a different milestone to get to considering him or herself writers. Thanks and take care.

So far, I've had four articles published on Associated Content and have submitted a short story that may be published in a national magazine. I'm still working on my novel.
I wish I didn't get so distracted. I seem to have trouble focusing on more than a couple of things at a time. Maybe we should vote to have more hours in the day. :)

You're published, that's cool, I'm not. I have started a novel and now I'm stalled, I need to get back into it. Ideas, outlines fall into place for me, but how to get from part a to part b and the nitty gritty of each word takes a long time for me, thanks and take care.

I felt like a writer when I started to write stories in my teens and before that. Now I did not get published, they were mainly for my amusement and I could not afford a typewriter, but I did not become a serious writer until about fifteen or so years ago. Then I decided to buy books on writing and decided to find out the mechanics about writing, that is, double spacing everything I write, and follow the manuscript formats, etc.
I have always used times or courier or typewritten format, and I never used fancy colored paper. I do not feel like an author though because I am still working on my novel.

The first time that I felt like a writer is when I was in grade three. I'm ten years old then. Our teacher put up some pictures in the blac board and asked us to make a story using those pictures. I wrote one and she liked it very much. That boosted my confidence with my writing skills. And when she showed what I've written to other teachers in our school, they liked it too.

That's wonderful! To be recognized so young and appreciated. I hope your teacher knows what a difference she made in your life. Thanks.

I think that I first felt like a writer, when I actually realized that I could make a living doing this...not a great living, but a living.

Intersting, were you surprised?
I was surprised that people would actually want to read what I had to say. Take care and thanks.

I guess it started when I first saw the Lord of the Rings, my all-time favorite movies/books. Everything about it intrigued me so much, that I wanted more. I was in fourth grade, so the movies were about the limit, though. I wanted it to go on, I wanted more things to happen the way I wanted them to happen. Soon, I decided that the only way that I was going to be able to get all that was by writing it myself. I guess it wasn't until I started writing and began a "book" with my cousin that I really thought of myself as a writer. I loved being in control of the plot and characters and to have whatever I wanted happen. I don't think there is actual levels of writing, but it seems to grow with me. I'm not that good, but others insist that I am, so I don't really know where I am now.

I never really thought of it as the control of characters and what happens. I think of it more as problems that have to be solved and what ways can we do it. The Lord of the Rings was very inspired and very cool. Thanks and sounds like you should keep on writing.

I've been writing stories since I was four. When I was 16 I won a school prize for my review of Shakepspeare's Henry V.
My science fiction novels kept getting rejected but I did win a prize in an international competition, and to my great relief a historical romance novel finally got published in 2004.

I started writting as a kid. I had some trouble in school. I had a speach impediment and got teased bythe other kids when I did try to read out loud. The teacher wouldn't take pitty on me and just skip me like I asked her too.
My Mom worked hard with me to get the reading thing done. It all became better after I went to a speach therapist.
Anyway, after that I fell in love with books and writting. The thing that helped me along was the Laura Ingles Wilder books. I love those books as a kid, and I still do.
After that, I took to writting like a duck takes to water. I was also homeschooled, so the only thing I had to work with was books. So, most everything I know and do is self taught.

I'm really glad things worked out for you. You're lucky you can write, two of my brothers with speech problems couldn't write and now still have problems with writing.
Glad you fell in love with books. I loved Little House on the Prairie. Thank you very much and take care.
