Steak Pet Peeve

I have had some discussions about eating steak lately and would like to get some input from other people. I admit that I grew up in a house where the steaks were thin and it was cooked at least well done. As I got older and started experimenting as my own cook and finding the way that I like to eat things, steak came to the forefront of the items that I grew to love. I learned the art of marinating and grilling the steaks at a medium rare to medium heat. I found this wonderful taste to be exciting and couldn't wait to eat my next steak. Now, several years later, I still love steak and believe the best place to get one is from the grill in the backyard and not some fancy steakhouse. This leads me to my pet peeve. I have eaten with some people that requested their steaks well done, burnt in my opinion and then drown their steak with A1 or Heinz 57 or even worse Ketchup. This aggravates me to no end because I want people to open their eyes as I did so long ago when I learned how great a steak could taste. Does anyone else have the same problem with people that put sauce all over their steak or am I all alone on this topic?

My husband used to eat steak well done. I converted him. My family was the same as yours. My mom always over did the meat. I didn't eat steak or pork chops very much as all. Then when I moved out and started cooking for myself I learned how good they could be. I love steak. One time I made steaks they were still a little pink and my husband ended up eating it. He loved it and hasn't looked back since. He is a master on the grill too. mmm now i'm hungry for steak!

Awesome to have someone on the team. That sounds very familiar to the story of my wife starting to eat her steaks not burnt. Keep on grilling.

I had almost the same experience, when we were growing up, when we had steak, it was always well done! But I learned from eating in restaurants, that you could order it rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, and so on! So I decided to try it, I ordered a medium rare and I liked it, and ever since then, I usually just eat mine, medium!

That is one of the things that I found. When you are given something growing up, you kind of just accept it and move on. Then as you get older you start experimenting with things on your terms and find out what you like. I am very happy that I was able to find this out because now I have a passion for something that I had no clue about when I was growing up.

I dont see why that would aggrevate you as long as you eat the way you want to eat it. Me for eg. I cant eat meat if its not well done any meat not just stake. My stomack would not agree with it at all so if I eat something that is not cooked well I end up been sick for days. So dont judge people because you dont know their story.

Thank you for your input. I am not trying to judge people, just offering an opinion. The aggravation comes from me buying the meat, taking the time to cook it for you, and provide as much taste as possible for you to enjoy. After I do all of that then it is covered in sauce to mask the taste of the meat it bothers me. If you didn't know I was going through all this trouble to do this for my guests, then I am alright with it. If you do know what I am doing and just keep quite that aggravates me because then I could have done something different for you that you would enjoy more.
