This comment is from a non smoker, i can see where your coming fromwith how silly it has become. But you choose to smoke which is fine, but for people like me who choose not too. Why should someone who smokes tell us that we should suffer second hand smoke. All they are doing is trying to help the hospitals from people suffering with cancer and other related illnesses relating to smoking. It is costing the health service alot of money every year. Think of all the cigerette butts on the beach that a child can put in their mouths. Not nice.

Guilty, guilty, guilty. Thats me. I have smoked for longer than you have and never have wanted to quit until recently. Its not an easy task, but the way things are going others may force my hand. I consider myself a very polite smoker. Even if I am smoking outside, I stand away from others who may be standing in the general vicinity. Its those who blatantly are ill mannered and don't respect the rights of others that will have made smoking illegal.

My husband and I have been smoking for 40 years and even though I would never recommend it to anyone, when we started smoking it was not only legal, but socially acceptable as well. Our three children do not smoke and we do not smoke in their homes or when dining with them. We've always tried to be courteous and only sit in the designated smoking areas and not blow smoke in anyone's faces. My problem is with governmental control in our lives. This is not just a smoking issue. Spying on emails, v-chips in our heads, forced inoculations of our teenage girls, what's next? We have to be very careful of our freedoms because every day we lose more and more of them. There is no reason that we should not be able to have a "smoking section" and yet Illinois, along with about 23 other states have forced bars and restaurants, bingo parlors, etc. to completely ban smoking from their establishments (even if they had totally separate rooms) for the smokers. In this economy, let's "kill off" some more businesses and put more people out of work! If a group of people decide that "buffets" encourage people to overeat which is also dangerous for your health, should a law be enacted to banish "all you can eat buffets" or fast food restaurants because obesity is a major health concern? We have to be careful of our desires, or we may get much more than we bargain for!!

I don't smoke, never have, never will. While I don't care for people smokeing in a confined space with me ( as it hurts my lungs ) I don't have a problem with it outside & don't see why they'd try to ban it. Some people just want to take things to extremes I guess.

I don't smoke but I also respect those who does. I get out of the place without no words not to sound bothersome. Well, it's just how we put things in perspective and act upon what is needed.

smoking is one of the worst habbits. not only bad for your own health, for which i dont really care, but bad for the others around you as well, and the others include me as well, so shame on you being so carefree and harming others.

I think its getting out of hand if they enforce a smoking ban on beaches or parks. I use to be a smoker and quit six years ago only because my body rejected it when I became pregnant. My husband still smokes and is trying to give up which is not easy for those who have been smoking for years.

Try not to take this the wrong way but I don't know any better way to put it: I've been breathing for 30 years now and I try and respect smokers as much as possible, but I think this smoking thing is getting out of control now, just this morning I saw on the news that smokers want to be able to blow smoke in my face on beaches and in parks, I know they have a right to make their own decisions, but this is getting ridiculous, my breathing of smoke free air is not just a choice, but kind of important, the way it's going they will be making clean air illegal, all you breathers better stock up on your fresh air before we're buying it on the black market . . . This is the closest I can come to seeing your point of view. Smoking won't be any more illegal than breathing, ever. And as silly as some laws trying to restrict smoking rights have seemed, it has been the lack of concern some smokers have shown for their fellow "man" that has fueled the laws. I know it has probably been just a small number of idiots ruining it for all smokers, but it makes it hard to get sympathy from non-smokers who have had to put up with "smoker's rights" all their lives. Sometimes it really felt like clean air was going to be lost: "Illegal", as it were. I wouldn't see a need to "ban" smoking as widely as has been suggested if smokers over the years would have just "put it out" when nicely asked. If choice and humanity don't work, laws inevitably intervene. The theory was: Go ahead, light it up whenever you want, but if you hear me choking, be nice and put it out. Since that's not working . . .

Well I quit smoking long ago and my fiance still smokes, outside on the beach of all places it isnt going to bug anyone, no more than there car exhaust hurts them. Stupid, i still sit in the smoking section sometimes and restruants, but sometime i sit in the nonsmoking section and i cant even see, smell, or anything with the smoke in the smoking section, so i dont get that ban either. People are so controling and try to control others and they shouldnt control anyone but themselves.

I have to agree with you mrpippo. I have been smoking for 25 years now. I respect non-smokers. But things are getting a little pathetic over the whole smoking ban thing. I truly feel anyplace a person can "drink", I should be able to smoke. This is just my opinion though.

I have to say as a smoker I agree that this is going a little far. Just the other day when I went to the gas station I heard a young man in front of me tell the clerk they have already banned smoking outside illegal in some city's and town's not to far from where I live. Soon it will be statewide and we will only be able to smoke in our houses. However, you also have to think about the smokers that smoke outside of their home that have children. They do it so they don't ruin their children's health and to keep their houses clean. Next thing you hear is anyone caught smoking in their home that has children will be thrown in jail for endangering their children's lives. It's a lose - lose situation. Seems to me they are trying to take every freedom away one at a time and don't think anyone will realize what is happening.

To me as a non smoker , i don't understand your persistance to smoke .Even as there are lots of campaigns to illustrate the ill effects of smoking , people like you are not bothered . Why do you have to do something and be proud to do so if it is going to ruin not only yours but people around you too. If your are sane person you must quit or atleast acknowledge the problems and seek ways to get out of it . If not u must be an addict and must seek professional help . As i pointed out earlier smoking not only affects you ,it also influence people close to you . As a child idiolising his parent he would also get hooked to it at a tender age when you must be nurturing him to lead a good life . with regards www.chocolatesavy.com
