well,do you remember your first trip abroad.
in what age? for what reason, and to which country?
willing to hear from you, anyone here willing to share your experience?

My avatar? It is a Musical symbol. It is the key signature that is used to read music for the violin and the right hand of the piano.I played the violin in the orchestra.

My first trip abroad was with my parents when I was 13 and we went to Tenerife, it was for 2 weeks and it was a holiday. I loved it and when I came home I was determined I was going to live there! The next year my parents took me to cypress, and again we went for a 2 week holiday and I was determined I was going to live there too. The last holiday abroad I had was at 15 when my parents took me to disneyland florida for 2 weeks it was fantastic and I was going to live there too, but alas it never happened and I still live in England. I have not been abroad since I was 15 and I am 34 now, so its been a while. I am hoping to take my children to disneyland in the next couple of years.

When the weather is at its best, England is a beautiful country, and there is so much to do and see. We have holidayed in our own country for the last few years with having young children it seemed easier than lugging them abroad and we have been to some beautiful places.

well..i was only 12 years old when i first went abroad.I was given the opportunity to visit Hyattyai ,Thailand because my mom won free tickets during my school holidays.Frankly say , it did not turn out to be a wonderful trip because i simply dislike that place.Well, that was many years ago..I'm pretty sure they have more development now.

I can't remember my first trip abroad but I know it was to France when I was very young. I can remember other day trips to France when I was slightly older. I so wanted to travel when I was a child and I used to hold my globe looking at the places I hoped to go to when I was older. I got a paper round when I was 13 and by the time I was 14 I saved up enough money to spend on going to a holiday to Greece with my mum. We flew to Athens then got a ferry to the island of Spetse. I loved the sunny weather, seeing the traditional white buildings and old churches as well as the spending time on the pretty beaches. On the way home we looked at the historical buildings of Athens. I had the most wonderful time even though I got my shoulders sun burnt quite badly. I carried on saving up my money and my next trip was with a friend to Amsterdam in the Netherlands when I was 17. For as long as I can remember traveling has delighted me.

Yes, traditional buildings in Athens are painted white and blue. The architecture looks so pretty and unspoilt. The Acropolis is an amazing old building and the view over the city is stunning. The Greek Islands also have quite a charm to them. Travel has to be very important in a persons life before he or she will push the limitations. These can be time, money, work commitments and family. I saved up money for trips to nearby countries then got a working holiday visa for Australia so I could go around the world when I was 20. Good luck with achieving your dream of traveling.

My first travel abroad was in 1980...destination Hongkong with my friend. The purpose was for business so we spent three days shopping! At that time, Hongkong was really a shopping haven so we got addicted to the place and went back a couple more times. My next travel abroad was in 1991, this time in Bangkok, on official business. I was traveling alone so I did not enjoy this trip. I was back in Bangkok in 1995, this time with an officemate. Bangkok then was known for gold and leather goods we did have a grand time shopping. And we loved the food! Bangkok became our favorite travel destination in the 1990s. I've been to Singapore in 1998, but it was on official business. My most memorable travel so far was my recent visit to US and Canada. I spent two months going around the key US destinations (California, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Pensylvannia, Arizona, Las Vegas) and reaching up to Toronto,Canada! I loved the sight of Niagara Falls! What made my US travel more memorable was it gave me the chance to bond with old friends and relatives.

I joined the Marine Corps as soon as I turned 18, right out of high school. I traveled to several countries during my 21+ years.
My first trip was to Japan for the entire year of 1982. That was fun, but I was ready to come home. My son was only 5 months old when we went over, and I wanted to make sure English wasn't a second language for him!
I also spent about three weeks each in London and Seoul, Korea.

I only got to travel while in the military, and we don't have any Marine bases in China.
We had a Korean babysitter while we were stationed in Japan, so I think Brian would have learned Korean rather than Japanese.
We were in Hawaii for three years and both boys learned a little Japanese in grade school. I doubt they remember much, if any of it. They're now 23 and 26.

Not only you. i have also not made any abroad trip yet. actually we are not so rich and India is a big country. so making the trips are costly too.
But i am supposed to make onsite trips till now as I am in IT and most people make by this time. May be I am more unlucky.

Well the first time that I left the United States was when I was 17. I drove the 5 mins from my home at the time in El Paso TX to Ciudad Juarez Mexico. I know that it is not far, but I really felt like I was a world away, everthing looked different, they spoke spanish instead of English. Its was very cool. Now that I live in Baltimore it is not as easy to visit other countries. When i was younger we would drive to Mexico almost every weekend so that we could go to the night clubs out there. Lots of fun :)

My first trip out of the US was at the age of 17. I went to South American to visit some archaeological sites with my brother. Since I was planning on studying archaeology at the University my parents sent me along. I remember being initially terrified when we landed at the airport in Cuzco. This was before there were many tourists there so with my long, curly red hair I was something of a curiosity. Men would come up and pat me on the head! After a day to two though I got used to people staring and just had fun. The people were lovely, the scenery was awesome and the museaums and archaeology sites were just amazing. Other than getting sick from something that I ate, I had a great time and would love to go back.

i gusee that sites you visit at age 17 is a little mystical and people there must be kindly and simple. i wonder what kind of food were they eating which made you unbearable.

Hi Sophialin, don't be so sad. Just wait for the right time, you will be gone. My first trip abroad when I was in college. I went to French to take a summer course in Vichy. Firstly, I felt so excited, but when it came almost one month, oh my God. I got home sick. Eventhough I was not alone, I went with friends from my french course.Vichy is a nice city, small, and a lot of old persons. so it's good place to learn french language.

My first trip abroad was to the Phillippines..I was about 7 years old and my dad was in the military. Stayed in the phillippines for about a year and then moved back to the states. In 2005, I met a very nice man which is now my fiancee that is living in the UK..We met on the internet and yes I was a bit scared. But I actually did not go to the UK till March 2007. That was the first time we met in person, and now I am planning on going back. I am in my 30's now. I would like to visit other countries, because I am a very cultural person, and I love seeing other countries. But if you want to know about the UK (England), It is a VERY VERY beautiful country and most of the english people there are very nice! At least to me they were..hehehe. I hope your able to save some money and take a nice trip somewhere, even if its for a week.

My experience "abroad" was not actually too far away. And I am not even sure if it really counts as "abroad" just "over the border" really.
I am from the U.S. and I visited in Monterray, Mexico when I was on a mission trip several years ago. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed learning about the new culture.
