Why do you think that Golding decided to only have males stranded on his island? I don't think he was being sexist, I don't intend it to be a feminist rant. But I'd like to here why you think he only used the one gender. I have my own ideas but I'd like to see what other people think first rather than expressing my thoughts and just having people say they agree! So, any thoughts?

Hello. This is a response regarding the question about there being only male characters in the book Lord of the Flies. The reason that there are only male characters in the book Lord of the Flies is because they are all from a boys' only prep school. Have a nice day.

I know that the reason in the book was that they were from Boys School's being evacuated together, I was thinking more along the lines of why the author chose to have a male only cast. But thanks for your comment regardless :)

My guess is because at the time that the book was written, politics in Great Britain were patriarchal and women were underrepresented in matters of combat.

I think perhaps an all female cast to this book would end up with them all burning their training bras and dancing together like women do in every chick flick I've ever had to sit through. Everyone would have complained about the food but no one would have killed a darn pig to eat. It would have not been a very interesting story, or at least not nearly as dramatic. A co-ed set of castaways, that requires some thought. How old were the kids when they got stranded? I haven't read this particular book since highschool.
