what makes you go shopping for books ,its previews or reviews

Do you buy book reading the story at the back of the book or buy them from reviews available in newspaper or megazines. I don't always go by rating, rather go by my instincts, while buying them.I am an avid reader, but a number of times it so happened that I brought them just because a celebrity happened to be singing praises for them, and I detested reading them halfway even and dumped the books.
once I was mean enough to present four or five of them to a friend on her birthday, whome I disliked and fortunately, they were her types and she was too happy to receive them.
What happens to the books which are a disaster in your library

I look for books which I think I will enjoy because they are by an author I like or because the story looks interesting. I think reading preference is a very personal choice. Just because a reviewer likes or dislikes a book does not mean I will share the same experience. I know what kind of books I don't like so however good the review is I know I will not buy it.

Sometimes the review puts us off, so we should never go by reviews without proper insight to the content,as a my lo had just told me.

most of the time the illustration on the front cover attracts me, and then only i'll read the summary at the back of the book. if it's as interesting as the cover then that's it- i'm definitely buying! haha.

What makes me shop for book is usually if it is something i can learn or benefit from. I like to hear stories about someones life, but right now I'm reading books that are going to take me some where in life. So really that is actully my focus. Books are cool, but many people do not like to read. I think reading is good for the soul.

Never take any notice of reviews - normally I just buy books from authors I like. Or else those recommended as being from an author who writes in the same style as one of my favourites

I think you are right but sometimes when I want to try other writers I am in a mess.It happens mostly when I am travelling and want some light reading to pass time.

I usually buy books which are recommended by friends. Sometimes if there are several good reviews about the book and if it's written by one of my favorite authors.
