Hi guys! I lived in Honolulu waaayyyy back in 1972.
I loved it there.
The different cultures...the smells...the beauty of the island.
I have dreams of going back there someday.
I have just been wondering how many MyLotters might live there or have traveled there.
I wonder how much it has changed.
When I was there, LOL, it was pretty much still in it's baby steps days.
I have seen pictures of how it looks now, and WOW what a difference!
Is the Ala Moana shopping center still around?
The Hawaiian Hut.
Geeze there was a guy named Peter Nelson who played there and I thought that he was just the best.
Aw, time flies, huh?
Does anyone have any good island stories to share?
Aloha!!!kitkatgal

Yes, I went to Hawaii when I was on my journey around the world. I came there from Los Angles and my next stop was Fiji. I arrived in the middle of the night and stayed in a crash pad sort of place near the airport. Then the next day I felt the glorious sunshine and I saw the gently waving palm trees. I got a lift up to the North Shore and I stayed at the backpackers hostel. There was a white sand beach nearby. Powerful and high waves hit the shore making it more suitable for surfing rather than paddling or swimming. I went to sleep on the beach and got my legs badly sun burnt. I found Hawaii very expensive and Fiji as well as Australia were cheaper. Even bananas cost quite a bit to buy. I went to Pearl Harbor and was moved by its sad story. I went to Waikiki Beach and didn't like it that much because of all the tower blocks. I imagine that Hawaii is a great place to live. I so love tropical places.

Hi maximax!Oh yeahhhh the swaying palm trees are also my first memory. And then comes my first look at the beach. Maximax, I had never ever seen anything that beautiful in my entire life. It took my breath away.
The deep deep blue of the ocean....the SIZE of the waves!
Incredible!!!
Ohhhh no you fell asleep on the beach!!! Ooooohhhhh noooo.
I got badly burnt after my first outing there too.
I THOUGHT that it was too cloudy to get ANY sun that day.
Whoa!! Was I wrong.
Second degree burns over most of my body.
I was in the sun, even though it was actually cloudy, for about 10 hours.
OUCH!!!
Ahhh well....
I want very badly to go back...
And the North Shore is the most beautiful place ever...

I lived on Oahu for 5 years in the mid 90's. The first 2 years I lived in Honolulu and the last 3 years in Kailua. I love the tropical climate and the casual lifestyle. Unfortunately I couldn't find a job, so I had to move back to the mainland. I was devastated when I had to leave paradise.
Yes, Ala Moana shopping center is still there. Today it's even more beautiful than when I was there. It's my dream to move back to the islands, but I might consider living on the Big Island the next time around.
Aloha!
