This morning, in a fit of domesticity I decided to do a little ironing. Not a lot. Just enough to have ironed clothes for a few days and to make my lovely wife think that I do something more than just sit on myLot all day. Our ironing room is upstairs. Just now, about 3 hours later. In another display of homemaking, I decided to vacuum. I enjoy this a lot more so I really went to town. Every room got done. When I got to the Ironing room though, what should I see but the iron, blazing hot and still plugged in. The house could have caught fire and I would be writing this from the homeless shelter. Am I alone in being this stupid. Confession is good for the soul. Fess up. What have you done that could have caused a disaster.

I don't think I've done anything like that that ended up dangerous. Methinks mebbe you should stick to myLot-ing, my friend. :)

Why would that illicit a proposal? You think I'm not scatterbrained? :)

I can't think of any right offhand. Most of mine are intentional.

Uh oh that domestic goddess discussion has gotten to your head LOL I have left the iron on too a couple of times and have been lucky that nothing has happened and know I need to be more careful. It happens when I am in a rush to get my hubby and son out the door. I have also forgotten to turn off the oven after cooking or baking.

Yeas. I am thinking about getting a frilly apron too. No doubt the men in white coats will be along quite soon! Done the oven and hob rings too. I thought that the kitchen was too warm.

I left a pot of hot oil cooking on the stove once and I have a gas stove, so have to always check to see if it's off as I have a bad habit of forgetting to turn it off. I'm always leaving things on, like last week I made myself a cup of cofeee and forgot I had made it and went out leaving it on, then when I got home I still forgot to turn it off. There are other things, I just can't remember (as you can imagine...no memory)!!

Look at it this way. At least the iron was not laying down flat on a shirt burning it to a crisp. I too have left an iron on before. You are not alone there. I once left something simmering on the back burner of the stove, and forgot about it and went to bed. I woke up early in the morning and realized that it was still on and what was in the pan had been burnt to a crisp.

No shirt thank goodness. You were lucky with your pot though.

Last night I started to get dinner started early. I was thinking I was going to be so ahead this evening and be able to get all types of things done early, get to hang out with the family a little more. I started dinner and completely forgot that I had the stove on, I ended up burning dinner, and having to start all over. I had the pot on Hi, I burned up a good pot, luckily I came downstairs just in time.

Every time I get out of bed in the morning, there could be a disaster. I am accident prone and I usually meet the floor/concrete more often than most. I also love to vacuum. One night, I was very tired, but wanted to finish vacuuming before going to bed. I was vacuuming the hall and leaned to far in from of me and fell on my knees and landed on my face in the closet. I am not ready to laugh about it yet. I have an iron that automatically shuts off when left idle for too long.

Oh Rozie, I am not laughing but I can picture you in the closet. I was thinking just last night if you could get an iron that cuts out after so many minutes of inactivity. I shall go see.

OMG...you sound just like me. I can't count the number of times I've walked off and left burners burning, the oven on, ect. The stove is my worst thing and Hubby constantly checks it after I'm done. More than once I've left a burner on and could have burned our home down...luckly there are angels watching over me. !!HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Confessions of a domestic goddess part 1. I was using visions cookware (the clear kind that lets you see your food while it is cooking)and it was my first time cooking on an Electric stove. The old kind with the coils that got hot and stayed hot for weeks after you turned the stove off. I put the water in for my pasta and went to finish folding the laundry. What felt like 10 minutes but what was more like 40 later I heard a loud explosion from the kitchen. The water had all boiled out of the pot and the glass had shattered everywhere. Had someone been in the kitchen when this happened they would have surely been impaled by a large piece of glass. Confessions of a Domestic Goddess Part 2. Later that day I decided I wasn't cooking on an electric stove top every again so I turned the oven on to preheat it for the frozen lasagna I bought at the store after I cleaned glass out of every inch of my kitchen. About 15 minutes later I opened the over door to find that an empty roaster was sitting inside of it with Take Out Menus laying in the lid. I grabbed the roaster, no oven mitts on, burned my hand then dropped the thing on my foot. I had burns on my hands and my foot and the menus could have been set ablaze had I not opened the door in time. Needless to say we had pizza for dinner that night.

Ouch. Good job that you had the vision to buy a pizza in. Poor you with all those burns. I hope that you were off cooking for a day or two.

I too have been known to quite frequently leave the iron on its very easily done and also very dangerous but I too have been very lucky not to do any damage. My main cause of concern for myself is that I leave the oven on, not just the oven but also the hobs. When I am doing tea I am always that busy making sure all 6 in my family are fed that turning the oven off is the last thing on my mind. My husband goes mad and he tells me off, so now I try to make sure I turn it all off as I go along.

Until you said that there are 6 in your family I thought thought we must be married. Both my wife and I do that. Still, it gives us something to shout about.

Yes he does the shouting and I do the sulking! I hate being told off especially if I know he is right!

I understand completely, but for me it's always in the kitchen while I am cooking dinner I strain the potato's and other mixed veg and forget to turn off the hot plates, many a time I have woken in the morning to find the hotplates still on and no matter how many times I try to remind myself "oh I must turn them off this time" only to forget again while I am dishing out dinner and trying to get the kids organised.

I have a terrible memory. I can imagine leaving the hot plates on. We have a gas burner so I am not too bad with that. But there have been a few close run ins!
