Working Hard for Nothing

So have you ever worked really hard for something, only to have it blow up in your face? Recently I spent hours studying (intently, beyond regular material review) for my history midterm, I spread it out over the course of a week or so, and even did a bit of cramming the night before. I thought I had the history test. Even when I was taking it, I felt confident that I was going to get a good grade. So good, in fact, that I was expecting an A. I got it back, and I got a C. (A high C, granted, only a point from a B, but still it was a C. That's a far cry from the expected A.)
That's really frustrating for me.
Does this happen in the real world? Have you ever been at work or in a situation other than school where your work didn't pay off? Is life setting me up for failure, or just this class?

I have had that happen to me a few times. I think it helps to prepare and work hard in most cases. But sometimes you judt do not get what you deserve or want or expect. I would not worry too much about it if I was you. take pride in knowing you worked hard and did your best. If you continue to do that I am sure you will succeede.
Good luck on the next test.

Thanks so much for the well-wishes, and despite the lower grade I still feel like I know the material. I'll probably go back and look over what I missed, try to learn it even though the test has passed... So I guess in a way it will turn out to be a good thing.

Don't take it so hard.I'm sure you worked hard for it.If the examiner has put a C for it he must have had a reason.Try to find it out and get better.Failure is always the stepping stone to success. You cannot have happy days throughout your life.Just take it as what it is and work harder. If you feel you already earned the knowledge which was required for an A then the C really should not matter.

..you must have learned a lot anyway (lots of folks don't know very much history). And a C+ isn't bad! I study lots of things.. even disagree often with the 'professors' and the 'experts' but I learn an awful lot. What is success? Happiness! I've always heard the key to happiness is to be happy with how things are.. and to set goals.. Don't worry you'll have lots of successes! (If you don't get discouraged and quit applying yourself.)
..best of luck!:)
