I thought I would start writing like crazy on reading about the rewards program on Helium, but after a good start I have suddenly lost that desire to write more and more. Don't get me wrong, I feel like writing but at the same earlier pace, whenever I find something interesting, have also started spending time studying other writers on helium and their work and I must say some of them are exceptionally good.
This is what I observed on going through the site, those who have just started and have a few articles written have stars for writing and those who are at the top have writing stars. Those somewhere in the middle are struggling for the stars. Obviously the more you write the more you are at the risk of losing your ratings and if you have already written too many articles, you have a great lead when the competition started. Now this doesn't mean I envy any of them just putting forth an observation that the competition is more beneficial for beginners at helium and those already at the top. Those somewhere in the middle have to put twice the effort !

Actually it is quite hard at the top, believe me, because if we make mistakes, we are prone to lose those stars too. Many long term members already wrote to different writing standards and their work is now at the bottom, and these people really are struggling and I help them every day to improve old articles. At the same time, the writers we are getting now are of better quality and higher expectations, and as a top writer, I am losing many of my No. 1 articles to greater writers than myself, which helps the site but doesn't help me keep those stars.
It's an evolving thing, and we have to evolve with it I suppose, but I love the place and willingly help anyone struggling to get those illusive stars.

Well I have been amember for about four months - I was being a bit lazy so think the rewardathon has focused my mind a bit. I don't particularly write because of the money - but if I was going to write the articles anyway it is nice to know I am going to get about $2 per article

I know. To do good in that contest I will have to rewrite all my articles. I just resolved to write what I want and let sleeping dogs lie.
