In Desmond's last episode he was told that he needed a constant to latch on to in both time periods or he would die. A constant is an object or person that exists in both time periods, that the time traveler deeply cares about. I guess mine would be my friend Nathan. I've known him since second grade, and he's lived in the same house this whole time, so it would be easy to know where he was. So who/what would your constant be?

Hello bochco, excellent discussion topic! I sure am glad to know that you have found your constant--in case anything goes wrong of course! ;) I have a constant too and a story that is eerily similar to Desmond. Go figure! The man to whom I am engaged now is the same man to whom I was once engaged nearly 15 years ago. We fell apart (like young people do) and broke up 11 years ago, and though we remained in touch through the years, we were always out of reach as circumstances prevented us from being anything more than distant friends. I had resigned myself to idea that he will always be "the one that got away" and moved a whopping--yes--2000 miles away! Well (by luck or pure chance) we ran into each other for the first time in 11 years and have been inseperable ever since! I don't mean to sound silly or superstitious, but if you define a constant as one who keeps you grounded and keeps you safe, then I do believe that we must have "natural constants" in our lives.

Great question- My constant would be my mom. Obviously she would take my call from me in the future-- and I know where she is- I'm guessing I would always know where to find her.
Friends move-- or could move- if you didn't hear from them in a while.

My constant would have to be my mom.... She is the only person that has been there from the time I was born and isn't going anywhere ever! :)

This is a very good question! My constant would either be my Mom or my hubby. Hard to say which for sure. My mom and I have this extremely strong connection and bond. We are two peas in a pod and we just get one another. But, my hubby is my best friend and my life preserver. So, were I in Desmond's situation, I would simply try both of them. Or, whichever person popped up in the my present period would be the person I would look up in the sideways period.
Great question!
