Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate) is an anti-psychotic medication that was approved by the FDA in 1997 for treatment of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder and the treatment of schizophrenia. Seroquel is an oral medication which comes in doses of 25mg, 100mg, 200mg, and 300mg and is used to manage the symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder including: delusions, thought disorder, hallucinations, social withdrawal, lack of energy, apathy, and reduced ability to express emotion. I've been taking it for at least 5 years and so far it's the only medication that helps me sleep and during the day a small dosage helps me get throught the "rough" parts. I clicked on a link here on mylot about Seroquel and although I've heard that it can hav a lot of side effects...none of which I experience...I started to worry about myself. I read all the information on the site and even had to look up some of the big words
that I didn't understand to help me figure out what they were talking about. I'm thinking about talking to my psychiatrist when I see her next week but I'm afraid that she will take me off them I'll go back to either having problems or even worse becoming a "zombie" from whatever new med she puts me on! Since I value all the advice I get from my dear friends on mylot what would you do? Have the meds changed or leave them as they are and be "safe"?

I was talking to my hubby because I have heard of this medicine, but that's about it. This medicine is mainly used to treat neurological disorders. It's secondary use is for bi polar and schizophrenia. If it were me (I was diagnosed with bi polar over ten years ago) I would stick with the medicine as long as you're not having side effects. My husband has been taking Klonopin for 13 years now, and he hasn't had any side effects from it, even though it can cause side effects. I don't mean to sound like I think I know it all or anything like that, but my father in law has been a pharmacist for almost 30 years, so I learn a lot from him. I wish I could find a medicine that works. I haven't been able to though. I will have to go back to the doctor once my Medicade application is approved. My anxiety and bi polar is so bad that I am on disability, so I know what you're going through. I hope that this medicine continues to work for you.

I'm on social security because I'm bi polar too. Most people don't think it's a good enough reason to be on ss but I can't hold down a job for more than a couple of months at the most and I have tried. Klonipin is supposed to be a good med and I waa on it for a very short time but I experienced every side effect it had so they took me off it very fast. I talked to my doctor yesterday and she thinks I should stay on because it's working so well for me and I'm not having any side effects.

I have people say the rudest things because I am on disability at a young age. I haven't had a job in almost five and a half years. The only jobs that I have had, the longest I was able to hold it was three months and that was really hard on me to say the least. I am so glad to hear that I am not alone though because I can't leave the house very often because of my anxiety I don't have any friends. I think that it's a good idea that the doctor kept you on the meds (especially if it is working) because you probably don't want to just drop off a medication that you have been on for a while.

why are you afraid of taking it? it's anti psycho medicine. it implies you are wrong. obviously there's a disagreement. in your mind. or with you and the doctors. meds aren't safe, nothing's safe. especially if you hallucinate. this is why you have to keep saine. so take the meds.
