We do secret pal at my work. Secret pal is where everyone who wants to be involved fills out a sheet of paper with their likes and whatnots. Then the papers are put into envelopes and mixed all together. Then each person draws an envelope. The person's paper you get is your secret pal. Now you have to purchase little gifts for this person throughout the year. We try to do at least one per month. I didn't do one in January, but did a huge one in February for Valentines day. I have been preparing my St. Patrick's Day gift today. Then there will be one for easter too. I buy little things whenever I am out shopping and put them back for this.
I like doing this. I received my secret pal present today. It's a St. Patrick's Day mug with candy, nail polish, rings, and a tee inside it.
I will take the gift I am preparing into work on Friday when I pick up my check. I think this is lots of fun. We don't reveal ourselves until December. We pick a certain day, usually the same day we do secret santa.
Does anyone else do this? Does it make you feel a little bit appreciated?

I've done this before with online groups, and it's fun! We've done the secret Santa too.
It's a bit harder to do long distance because you have the mailing costs involved and if they see the postmark they might figure out who you were, but we did a lot of it by email. We'd create a separate email just for that, then send e-cards and things.
It was fun!

Oh I use to do this when I was working in an office, since I float between two schools now I am not involved with this. It was so much fun, I miss it.

Yes, it is fun. Everyone stands around and watches while you open your present. The one I got today, my co-worker actually opened in front of me. They couldn't wait.

We've only done it for 3 years. I didn't do it last year since they opened it up to the whole division instead of just my unit. There are 5 units. The first year, my unit started it. We were the only ones who did it. Then last year, people from the other units wanted to do it too. Well, I don't work as closely with all of them and didn't know if I would know what to get them and all of that so I didn't participate. Then this year, we went back to just our unit. The other units are doing it too now. The funny thing is I drew the same person I had 2 years ago.

And that is why we do it. The so called "bosses" at our facility do not appreciate us one bit. If they did they would do something about the overtime for one thing. Someone has to appreciate us, so we appreciate ourselves. The bosses forget that without us, the direct care staff, there would be nowhere for them to work.
