When you go online to chat and you get to chat with someone you do not really know, do you give all the information they ask for? I mean real information.. Or, do you answer all their questions but some of your answers are not true?
I rarely chat with people I do not personally know. But during those instances when I get to chat with a total stranger, I withhold some information which I think the other party should not know about.

Nope, I dont. Sometimes I dont give my real name or my real age, or my location. But i never lie or pretend to be somebody that Im not. what is not good with chatting is that you dont know if someone on the other line is telling the truth or not.. It's just like people on the chatrooms are just fooling around.
But there are times when i feel comfortable chatting with the person, that I disclosed some secrets or problems to him/her. It's just like im making him/her as my "confidante". As what they've said, its easier to tell your problems and secrets to someone you barely know.

I typically only "chat" through messengers, and then it's with people I know from forums or who are already my friends offline. When talking to someone new, whether I met them on a forum or elsewhere online, I don't give out things like my address or real name often, but I'm perfectly willing to share most other information about my life. I will give out things like my name and phone number after a while, and a few of my close online friends do also have my address.

no if i am chatting with a person for the first time.. i definetly will not give out information about me. even my name i give my nick name. and i try not to answer those who asks too many personal questions. so far i have not encountered someone who have asked personal information much.. just stuffs like how many are my siblings, what i studied... things like that are okay for me to answer.

I don't give out information when I did use chat. I haven't chatted in a very long time. It is not a good idea to give out important information because you don't know that what the person is telling you is true. Giving out your important information could land you in trouble.

I don't go into any chat rooms but if I did I wouldn't give any information at all. If any I would make it up. I'm not going to meet them anyway and more than likely their not telling the truth either. It's better to be safe than sorry in chat rooms these days.

I never give any info whatsoever. I've known people for years that don't even know my real name. I'm wary that way. I've relaxed a little the past couple years and will let people know my general location but once you give your name or other personal information, you're at their mercy. Which is usually fine but there's always some nut or slimeball out there who will misuse it.

Of course you should not tell everything to somebody anything about yourself. But one thing I dont even chat to someone whom I do not know personally. Of course in filling up the information when I joined mylot is true as far as my name, my username, my age, my address, but thats all I can say. Even in the office if someone will ask any information about anyone we dont just give in without the valid reason.

yes,I agree with you!
In my opinion, strangers have some unpredicted danger and risk to communiacate, especially through internet.People really should protect themselves in this situation.I don't mean every stranger is a bad guy,but the truth is someone absolutely does.Do not tell them important information, such as the family address, family telephone number, mobile phone, etc. They are just the personal and private important messages untill you trust them already and you are making good friends already.
Safety is the first key to be considered!
