I have 4 cats! 1 lives outside is solid black, so I basically just feed and pet him. He isn't fixed. Of the 3 inside, 2 are solid black and are both fixed. I took in another stray a while back and now I see she in pregnant. I have never had this experience before. How long til kittens are born? How long do they nurse? What else should I know? Help!!!

Do you know when she conceived? They carry for 60-70 days from conception. The kittens will nurse for 6-8 weeks. If she is in the house you'll need to find a place youll let her have her kitties, she will take care of the rest as long as you keep an eye out during birth for any distress. I've had a litter of kittens at my house every summer since I was little. Its a beautiful thing.

No I don't know conception date. I don't even recall date I took her in!!! I just know it was freezing outside and her feet were bleeding. Approx. 6 weeks ago would be my guess. But I remember her going into heat about a month ago and getting out of the house for the overnight. Her belly is getting big fast and she's a eating machine. We have set her up a box with sleeping bag in large cubby above our bed, she keeps going in there to look around so we cleared her a place. Thanks for the help!!

Hello enchantedleppard I am just letting you know as of yesterday we have 5 beautiful new kittens in the house. Everything went well and momma is doing great. Her instincts are right on I was worried since this was her first litter but there was no need. It was a great experience for all of us. We have managed to find homes for 3 of them when they are ready. My daughter wants to keep one but we already have more than we are supposed to. I guess we can be sure that she was pregnant when we took her in since she gave birth so soon. She just wasn't showing yet. The kittens are adorable. Thanks again for much needed info on kitten birth....Mamablaze!!

Cats are usually pregnant 57 to 70 days. My sister in law has delt with many pegnant cats, so I'll tell you how she did this. Basically the girl cat should be in a comfortable place, set up an area where when it's time for her to give birth, she can go to it. Also watch her and let her be, sometimes you can pet her if you wish. Now when the babies are born they have to be close to their mom, after about 2 to 3 weeks thos kittens will start roaming around so be sure you keep the doors closed. If you cannot take care of all of them I suggest you find interesting parties that may want to adopt a kitten from you. Good luck.

Thanks for the much needed info. We've already set up a place for her and are waiting patiently. With the other 3 cats we have there is definitely going to be kitten adoption agency work in future. We have already found home for 1!! Thanks again, I'll let you know how it turns out.
