Why do you read? Is it relaxing, to get away, just love it or what? I read to relax at night after a long day of taking care of my little one. Does anyone have a particular genre or book that really relaxes them? Do you prefer reading online or physically have the book?

I mostly read to relax myself but I have to admit that I also read to help relieve stress. When I find myself really angry, I just grab a book, find a couch and just let loose. I find that reading helps me concentrate on something other than what causes me stress. When I open a book, I feel myself being transported to another time and place. I particularly love reading romance novels, historical or paranormal more so. With regards to whether I prefer online or real books, I have to say that I have no exact preference. To me what matters the most is that I'm reading a book.

I think people that can use reading and other unharmful ways to relieve stress and anger are awesome. Its good take it and do something contructive. Great response!

Hello jezzikabret!
I read books because I love reading, it is very informative, sort of relaxation and it kills boredom . I love to read Chicken Soup for the Soul, it's one of my favorite. I prefer to read having the physical book.

I love to read and have since I was just a kid..What and why I read varies really..sometimes I just feel like sitting down with a good book, other times I'm reading to educate myself on something or to learn more about a topic and sometimes I do it just becuase theres nothign else to do at that time..I much prefer to have the book in hand too..I can and have read online but I dont find it nearly as enjoyable..

Reading relaxes me and the time passes so quickly when I;m reading. I prefer reading with a book rather than online becuase being online tends to hurt by eyes after a while. I always read at night in bed after my baby has gone to sleep and it relaxes me and makes me sleepy although when I get lost in the story I can be reading for over an hour!

I have no idea why I read. I never sat down and given myself a thought to thought discussion as it depends on what I am reading. Sometimes I am trying to learn something and in some cases, I am trying to improve my spiritual knowledge when I read the Christian books and magazines I buy or subscribe to. Other times, I watched a movie based on a book, or I already like the author and want to read his books. Now since I am an incurable romantic, I like Jane Austin's books, so I would say it is because I love to read and if I were not slightly far sighted, and had to make sure the room was well lighted, I could read faster. I love romantic, mystery, suspense, some fantasy and science fiction, action adventure, but not literary or introspective books.
Even if the hero is on a life changing mission, I want him to have to fight villains, get shot or stabbed at while getting there and of course, getting the girl in the end.

I mean when it comes down to it, I just really, really love it. I always have. I also enjoy reading when I get into bed. When I lay down to sleep, I read for an hour before I actually go to sleep. I think that reading is such a good way to learn. I mean it can teach so much.

Thanks. The only problem is that my hubby says my nose is always in a book. Oh, well he is like that with the computer.

Hi jezzi, reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Other than for the sake of reading interest I find reading could make me relaxed, give me valuable information, enrich my writing skill and so on. I prefer to read the traditional books as it is rather handy and I could read them at anytime, anywhere. When young I used to read very fast, now I am getting slow but enjoying more when doing any reading.

I love to read. It relaxes me and I love the idea of going anyplace I want by just opening up a book and I am transported from my home to anyplace that I want. I get totally engrossed in reading and when someone talks to me I sometimes don't hear them due to the book I am reading. I like to have the book physically open. I don't like to read online or read with the audio tapes they have out. There is nothing like sitting down and curling up with a book and a cup of coffee in your hands.

I just love reading. I don't have any particular genre for reading. perhaps Fantasy writings, seeing that I love Harry Potter books. But its just not that. I even enjoy studying my school books. They are such good! I just love to read those. and, then, the ebooks which are mostly fictions, and I like them too.
Probably, reading books calms me down, and that's becuase I belive books as my friends (really, I don't have any true good friends in Real life anyways!) and so...it relaxes me because of my love towards reading..perhaps?
