Okay it's very late..I'm having one of those restless nights (or mornings?) and haven't been to bed yet, so decided to watch the early, early edition of the news and heard this bizarre story of a woman who had to be pried off a toilet after being stuck on it for two years!!!
So I just HAD to look into this...being the investigative reporter person I am
Here's a quote from the one article I found
..." WICHITA, Kan. — Deputies say a woman in western Kansas became stuck on her boyfriend's toilet after sitting on it for two years.
Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.
"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."
Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.
"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."
He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.
"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,"' Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."
The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.
Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.
"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.
She was taken to a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.
Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.
Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.
The case has been the buzz Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.
Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.
He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.
"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said of the bathroom incident. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."...."
Now I don't know about you...I was torn between laughing hysterically at this story and just plain feeling sorry in a way for the woman...and what gives with the boyfriend that he didn't have "problems" with his girlfriend....yes maybe there was something seriously mentally wrong with the woman ...uh, but what about him???

Hi, I am from Kansas, and yes, this was a big deal all day yesterday. The local news says that she does have mental health issues. She regarded the bathroom as her "safe place" I agree that the the boyfriend probably also either has mental health issues or is mentally handicapped. I work with adult mentally handicapped in a program that monitors and supervises them. I could see some people doing this that I work around. Just as innocently as could be. This is why it is good to have programs, and neighbors, and social support, for every one. I have known people with Alzheimer's disease who would easily have done this.

Okay I could see someone regarding a bathroom as a safe place...but to sit on a toilet for two years??? Didn't the neighbors suspect anything either?

I'm taking it this woman is obese? I feel sorry for this couple they both are obviously both mentally ill. Who in the world would sit there and watch their girlfriend suffer like that and only offer food and water. his first thought should have been to call for help! this is unreal. I wander if she has extensive damage to the buttocks

Yeah sophiasmom911,I was wondering about the obese issue too. I heard the tail end of the story on the news last nite. The boyfriend was described as a very helpful person by the neighbors. Guess he was too busy to help his girlfriend. And the weirdness goes on; the next door neighbors were shocked that they didn't know what was happening. I'm thinking that this is not the type of thing that you broadcast. I agree with the general consensus that there is some mental illness. Or possibly substance abuse? Wonder who will get the sitter on their show first? Larry King? Greta? Dr, Phil? Probably more a Jerry Springer thing. Or, Judge Judy (she sues him for neglect ... he sues her for ...). Ah, the possibilities. Only in Kansas.

Well he may have come across as being helpful to his neighbors but he sure wasn't with his girlfriend. Have no idea if she was obese which is why she got "stuck" in the first place.

That actually made me a little ill reading that. Perhaps it is because I actually pictured her skin grown around the toilet seat. Why on earth would she not leave the bathroom? And what did her boyfriend do when he needed to go to the bathroom? There is something a little bit fishy about this story. I think they both should be sent for a psychiatric assessment because for him to let her stay there for two whole years is just as strange as her sitting there for two years.

Yes it definitely sounds as it both aren't wrapped too tight and need heavy duty psych care---can you imagine how bad that woman must have smelled...ewwww!

I hadn't even thought about the smell. Can you imagine what her hygine would be like after not bathing for two years? She probably had little critters growing in her skin. I hope she at least flushed the toilet because she probably just... went... when she had to go.

THAT is so bizarre!!
I can't imagine letting someone sit on a toilet for more than 24 hours without calling in someone to help out!
Does he have no family and friends even??
My goodness!!!
It is funny but sad too...Crazy even.
What kind of relationship could they/did they really have???
Did they have two bathrooms I guess?
WOW! So many questions LOL.

It would seem the two of them didn't really have any friends or family, unless the two of them, especially him just pretended everything was "normal"--mmm..some normal, right?

I had not heard about this story until reading this but I had heard of one similar a few years back but in that case the woman had not left her couch for years. The material from the couch had grown into the skin along with the skin being infected and rotting away from her bodily fluids. At least this woman could go to the bathroom. It makes me wonder about the family members and why they didn't intervene sooner then they did.
I cannot imagine not moving for that long but perhaps for them it was the lesser of two evils? Going out of the bathroom or moving off the furniture might have been more frightening or painful to them then staying there? That is the only thing I can think of; that it was a combination of mental and physical disorders to cause it. I just feel for the poor woman and the fact that no one bothered to get her help before this. She is going to be going through years of surgery and painful treatments and it could have been avoided, that's the sad part. Personally I think the boyfriend should be charged with abuse of some sort. Not sure on what the laws are for that area and what they could get him on but hopefully they can.

Yeah from the looks of it I don't think either are working on all thrusters and need some serious help. The guy though in my opinion is the worst offender. She needed help and he didn't get it for her, that to me is inexcusable. He should be ashamed of himself and how he acted in all this. I did read in one article the the cops are hoping he will be charged as well. So that's a good indication he might be.

Yes I think some kind of charges of abuse against him should be made against the boyfriend...I mean come on, to let this go for two years. So definitely something wrong in his head too, not just her

I can not begin to imagine the sight the rescue workers came upon, sort of one of those believe it or not stories but it is very sad that some one who had to be mentally ill to do that and I really have to wonder about her boyfriend that would allow it to happen, I would have to assume there was more than one bathroom in the place. well if you are going to stay up late at least you are keeping your self well entertained and in turn us Thanks

I'm hoping they do some kind of follow up story on this on the media...I mean lets face it this is definitely one for some kind of record...and yes, must have been a record for the rescuers...bet they never encountered anything like that before

I've heard some weird news stories but this is definitely one of the weirdest by far! It seems to me both the woman and her boyfriend have a problem upstairs! I was like you when I first heard this story, torn between laughter and shock. How could the boyfriend possibly have waited two years before seeking help? Also, were there no other people in this woman's life who would have questioned her whereabouts in all that time? I wonder if there will be any charges filed at some point. This will be interesting to follow up on.

Mmmmm...can't think of what charges could be made against them...I mean from the boyfriend angle it wasn't as if he was holding her hostage...wasn't keeping her tied up or anything...and no charges could be really made against the woman except her just being plain mental

oh well, i can sum up what i think about those two people in one sentence. "those two are plain crazy." well, i think they both need medical attention, im wondering if they still have any family members that are willing to help them? the guy is also acting abnormally, not even trying to help or convince his wife to get out of the toilet seat? and when i say "convince" it means that he has to try and literally get her butt out of the toilet seat! i suppose he has 2 bathrooms? how do they get intimate? or maybe the guy is getting it from someone else? anyway that's all i can say.. i still cant believe that such a story can exist in real life..this is the kind of thing thats fit for "ripley's believe it or not"..

Yes this story definitely is a good candidate for Ripley's Believe it Or Not. You're right though..both weren't wrapped too tight, and especially him when you think of it as he didn't convince her to leave the toilet sooner, much, much sooner

That story is so incredible and very sad. It sounds to me like both of them had something seriously wrong with them. I can't even imagine what would motivate someone to want to do that--sit on a toilet for two years, or let someone sit on one for two years!

I watched the news all the way til the end last night because they kept giving you teasers about it.
Didn't say much, showed the boyfriend. My husband and I wanted to get a gander at the toilet sitter, but that was a no go.
Sounds just plain crazy. It seems she most likely had some psych issues!
Sad but funny!

They both appear to be suffering from some kind of diminished mental capacity, her the more serious of the too - she may have been OCD or psychotic or neurotic who know...he obviously is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Do they have no other family or friends??? It is sad that something like that could happen in this country

You would think if either of them did have friends or family, especially her, that they would want to see if she was all right..but who knows maybe from the angle of the boyfriend he made it appear that everything was all right

"I was torn between laughing hysterically at this story and just plain feeling sorry in a way for the woman"
Instead even if the news sounds funny from the title I couldn't be other than sorry for the woman when I read the article. I mean, two years in a bathroom! And with athrophied legs.
I've read about people very depressed who refuse to leave their bad, but this is too much
"what about him???"
And what about his and her friends or family? No one said nothing? I bet they are very lonely, otherwise someone would have done something.

Yes one has to seriously question what was the boyfriend's problem that he didn't get help sooner for her, instead of waiting two years...he should have gotten help after only a few days

Yes, this is a bizarre story I've everv heard. It doesn't make sense at all that a woman stuck on the toilet for two years. It leave us with so many questions to be answered. Why don't her boyfriend ask for help in the first place and how can she stand to be stuck at the toilet bowl for two years? I belive she must be very uncomfortable there for two years. As if the boyfriend is torturing her.

that whole story is so bizarre its hard to know whether to laugh or cry but it strikes me that she must have been mentally il and why did the boyfriend just keep on letting her sit there. surely he is missing a few cogs in his wheel also. I imagine that the toilet seat woman must have had emotional problems in her childhood but what about the odd boy friend. Most men would get worried in a few hours let along a few days and try to get her to leave the bathroom and probably try to get her some much needed mental help.So its obvious to me that there are two mentally screwed up people in this story.
