The battle of being addictive to food.

Many people believe that fat people are just lazy. People who don't understand and judge think we chose to live this way. I may be opening up a whole can of warms here--but I thought I would try to explain it.
Just like a drug addict or an alcoholic--food is an addiction for many people. It becomes our drug of choice. The difference between fighting the battle of drugs and/or alcohol is those are not needed to survive. We have to eat. So, it is difficult to break that habit.
People who don't understand think, "Just stop eating so much and stop eating the bad stuff." Have you ever gone to an alcoholic and tried to take the alcohol away or tried to take the crack addicts crack away. Most of them become extremely angry and will do anything to get those things back. Being a food addict is the same. When a person who is use to eating lots of sugary foods, pastas, or even soda and they all of a sudden stop eating or drinking it--their body goes through a withdrawal. They end up with headaches, low energy levels, crankiness, sadness and some times even shakes and change in sleeping patterns. The person deals with this until the toxins have been cleansed from the body. It usually takes a few days.
This isn't even getting into the mental part of changing your diet. Many food addicts are emotional eaters also. If they are depressed or mad--they turn to food for comfort. This is another subject though.
So the next time you see a person walking down the street who is fat--instead of ridiculing that person. Stop and remember what I wrote here and remember they have a disease. I disease that is right up there with cancer and heart disease. The only problem is--doctors have a hard time finding a cure. Remember it isn't that easy to just put down the food--we all need to eat!

This is very true as a over weight person myself. I understand this discussion very well. I have been on all sorts of diets and have lost and gained weight all of my life. It's not that I am a lazy person but like you sais I am addicted to food.

It is extremely unhealthy, not only for adults but for our children also.
