Home Day Care

I want to open my own home day care and would like to know if anyone knows more about how to go about this. Some people say that I have to get licensed, others say I don't and I can run it kind of like babysitting... But how many kids can I watch by myself, and if I had a partner (which I have someone who is interested already.) what are the rules on that? I've already got the prices almost figured out. Does anyone else HAVE a home day care?

I don't have a home day care, however I know that you can only watch a maximum of 5 children before you need a partner, if you have a partner you can watch 10 kids etc.

Allow me to answer this one... Depends on what you want to do with the daycare. The one I was "working" at was backed by the state. That means that they could be compensated for up to 10 children...in food expenses and paid by the state. Anything above and beyond came out of the pockets. If you go the state route, you'd be able to get paid from the state for those parents on welfare. But, you'd have to follow such restrictions of this and that that if you're not an organized person, it could be very demanding. You'll have to record when they got their diapers changed, when they ate (you had to follow strict diet rules and meals), when they slept, keep them in groups and watch what you say. Several parents pulled their children out of the daycare because of what I've said to them or in the presence. Too fricken bad. I was pregnant and my husband wasn't working. Instead, he was doing this task rather than looking for a job. Oh, and if you're state funded, be prepared to have surpise inspections for appearance, food and safety groups. Personally, I've done home day care without the state. It was as if I had several babysitting jobs, but got paid better. If you and a partner is thinking of this, by AZ state (don't know what it is in your state) you can have five children per adult. The adults have to be up to date on shots, background check, finger printed and several classes.
