I do because I have to have it there or the brightness of the computer screen will make my eyes water. We have two desks in this small room and there's a lamp on each one and I turn them both on so my computer won't bother me. Besides, my eyes are deteriorating enough as it is so I don't want to make it any worse.
So do you have a lamp on your desk? Do you use it?

I used to have one, because that is also the place where I usually read. But lately, my desk has been shaking maybe because of a loose know somewhere I'm not sure of.
I decided to place it on the table next to my bed, so I could still enjoy my reading.

Hmmmm, I think I'd be checking into that if I were you especially if my computer was on it. I'm sure you don't want it to fall to the floor and break. I agree though about your lamp, good idea to move it so it won't break either. I love to read too and need my light. lol

It's the screen's florescent light that's hard on the eyes, that's why I started this discussion. It's good that you have the light but hope it's enough so you'll keep your eye sight in tact.

I usually have a horrible, black, functional angelpoise lamp on my desk but my partner has appropriated it at the moment. I should like a prettier lamp, and I am sure I shall get one eventually.
The ceiling light is in the centre of the ceiling and the desk is in a corner, so if I am not working on screen it can get very dingy.
Your lamp looks super.

You should get yourself a new lamp, a kind that you'd like to have and put it on your computer desk. That black light wouldn't serve it's purpose in protecting your eyes so definetetly get a new one as soon as you can.

If you haven't done so, you might want to try adjusting the brightness settings on your monitor down some. Then if they are available, play with the gamma settings and the contrast til you find a setting that's easier on your eyes.
I do that with every LCD monitor that I get. The default settings out of the box usually bother my eyes and can give me headaches with extended use.

When hubby gets home, I'll ask him to do that because I don't know how. I'm very computer illiterate so he has to show me how first. Call it a blonde moment... lol

Oh you're very welcome! Glad to be of help to someone and anyone! Yes a lamp would help your eyes from straining so much. It's the same with TV, light helps a great deal. Best wishes!

I couldn't agree more, it does make one feel a bit safer late at night. I'm home alone tonight because my husband had to go out of town or even state because of his mother being so sick. She has dementia really bad and she fell about a month or more ago and broke her hip and has been in a nursing home ever since she got out of the hospital and now the doctors say she's getting no blood to her lower legs and one needs to be amputated. I don't think it's going to happen because she's so far gone in her mind that I think the kids have decided to let her go peacefully and in one piece. That's got to be hard to decide but ultimately, I think they're making a wise decision. So that explained, I'm here alone and I can't hear well so a little lamp light does make one feel a little better.

Yes its just a small desk and I have a laptop, a web cam, a printer,a wireless mouse and mouse-pad, an external speaker, and a bottle of water all on my desk. I use the lamp a lot and it was too bright so I installed a fluorescent energy efficient twisted bulb which is easier on the eyes than the older incandescent bulb.

I've seen those kinds of bulbs but didn't know what to think of them. So they're easier on the eyes and energy efficient, huh? I'm going to have to check that out! Thanks for that info!

That's much better than nothing at all and it's a lamp nonetheless. I had wondered if I was the only one but glad to see that I'm not. lol
