i'm just wondering about giving someone the best response to a discussion that you start. i really want to give someone the best response, but then i'm afraid that if i give it out quickly, then i might be missing out on what could be an even better response further down the road-and does it stop people from responding, or responding as thoroughly if the best response has already been chosen?

I think you have got a point there because I used to have the same problem. When I first started out, I really want to give the best response as soon I have received them. Then, I realised that after a few hours, an even better response was given. So now, I usually rate all of them after 24 hours my question was posted.

I don't normally try and get the best answer I just give my honest opinion on something or tell them what i know about a certain subject or somethign like that and if i see that the best answer has already been chosen then i still give them a honest answer maybe not as thoroughly as i owuld have but i still give them a good quality answer...

I feel no pressure to choose a best response. When something truly stands out I might select it as a best response (in a discussion where I asked people if they'd tried Turkish delight, someone posted a RECIPE for the yummy stuff!! That got a best response). normally, I just start the discussion, and everyone's response is equal.
