How many things do you own that require a key, a combination or a password? Probably quite a few. And how many times have you forgotten where you put the key, the combination to open something or a password to get into one of your programs? Like maybe the keys to a suitcase, or a combination to a safe, a bicycle lock or a briefcase. Your passwords to your favorite online programs? Has this ever happened to you and what did you do to resolve the situation?

I didn't know that Mozilla did that for you. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

there is this one diary over the net that i keep that i have lost the password for. :( no matter how i tried, honestly i was only using one password for almost all my accounts so if my memory is right, i should not be forgetting it at all otherwise, i wont be able to opne any of the accounts i owned.
anyways... much to my effort, i still haven't opened it to this day. i have already made myself a new one.

So that must mean you must have had to open a new account entirely because usually you have to have the old one to make a new password.

Well kbourgerie, the best place to keep your password is your brain. And if you tend to fail your password here are some clues:
Keep a password which is related to something very dear to you e.g. your first day (date on which you first went to school), your first date with your first boyfriend, your first vehicle number, the nick name of your favourite actor and his/her birthdate etc.
Here you have to remember that you have kept a password which is related to which thing which is very dear to you. This will make your work easier.

Thank you for that advice. I don't normally forget my passwords, but your advice might be good for the future in the event that ever happens.

I have been in a continuing situation with a survey company that pays pretty well but does not keep up the links on their site so when I was asked to join their portal system that pays much better I tried to sign in but had forgotten my user name.okay they have a system that is supposed to send you your user name if you have forgotten it or your password so all you supposedly have to do is write in your email address, simple enough right, and they will send you your username and reset your password by return email .Okay but they do not send me myuser name nor reset my password.I hear nothing from them so send an email to their contact link and get a really smarmy letter from the head honcho that they are so sorry but they have a glitch in their system, it is not my fault.so bear with them. But how long? I have been through this with this site now for almost eight weels and still they have not repaired the glitch and what is so frustrating to me is that they have money on their books that is owed to me and I have no way to collect that as I cannot log in as my username and password have been rejected. I have pretty much quit using them as I see no future in it but wish there were some way to make these people actually do what they said they were going to do,that is repair their glitches. I accused them of running a scam and they denied it of course.ugh.

What I hate is when you sign up with a site and they send you a verification email, which you never recieve. So you open one up with different email address and then the first site wants you to finally verify your account three weeks later.

Good question!I would like to share my opinion.
I really agree with your idea that regarding the password as "the keys to a suitcase,or a combination to a safe,a bicycle lock to a briefcase".That is quite true. The passkeys are so important that we should not look down upon it in our daily life.Sometimes, you need the passwords to a useful programs in a hurry, but unfortunately forget it and tried several times to fail.what a pity! I just had this kind of experience.
One day,one of my teachers left a task for us,and requested to log on a certain website to look for some useful information.I was very happy to do that, because I had been the VIPs of that website. It would be very easy for me to do that task. So,I could not control my joy to singing. When I was going to log on it,the unfortunately things happened.I just could not believe it at first.i thought I just made a mistake, however, after several times try,I was disappointed at last.
I had to creat to be a new member later!what a pity!
Hope others not do the same thing like me!

Well at least in the end you were able to overcome the adversity of the situation and get the task done. Good job.

This has happened several times to me.Especially when I try to make a new passworkd thinking using the same password for every page is not safe. But luckily the sites have an option of sending a new password if you give them the email id.The worst part is I tend to forget under which email id I created that password. And that's the end of it.

I have a pretty good system worked out for passwords. Mostly because I work in a bank, and am constantly having to change work passwords for different programs, though I've found the same system works well for things I do at home as well. I have different fragments of passwords that I put together in different ways, so even if I make a note of the password, it's not something anyone else is going to figure out. My note will just be a listing of which fragments I used, so it'll look like l-d's#-"dragon" when in fact the actual password there is a mythological reference + numbers attached to a very old username of mine + an anime reference... not things that anyone else is going to get, but something I know right away by looking at my note. So I can keep all my passwords written down without really compromising them.
Combinations are a little harder for me though. I have to know a ton of them for various things at work, and every time they change I have to practice like crazy to memorize the new ones.

Well, i've got dozens of passwords in internet, such as forums,QQ, MSN, Skype......It is really hard to remember them all. So i set the same password for almost all accounts. Haha. But sometimes the passord is limited by the web to be only 6 digits, then i have to set a different one, which i usually forgot. Then i have to send my email to the web to get my password back.

I remember my boss from my last job asked me to change his password to his email account. he told me since i am the one responsible for opening his email, i choose whatever password i want. so i did. So tomorrow comes and time to check his email again, and guess what i forgot the password i made, as in, i can't remember the password, no matter how i think, no matter i tried hard to remember, i didn't remember it,I don't know why or how i forgot it, poor me... I am so ashamed to my boss because you can't create a new password without the old password, so we have no choice but to contact IT dept to recreate his email...from then on he never allowed me to open his email ever again, he just assigned it to somebody else.
