Windows Vista - Love it or Hate It? New laptops don't have XP :-(

I want to buy a new laptop, but have discovered that you can no longer get Windows XP - only Windows Vista is available. And I hate VISTA!!! I find all the new changes on Vista are so un-user-friendly. Am I alone in this view? For example, the shut-down/log-off/switch user buttons are hard to access, and no warnings are displayed any more "Are you sure" in case you've made a mistake. I miss those warnings, because mistakes happen so often in my house! I also miss the easy way to upload photos and create CDs with the Microsoft Wizard. Did anyone else like these features? Or am I missing something that's so great about vista? (We don't play too many video games on the computer so graphics aren't something we care for in our house...)

You can still get an XP laptop via mail order. If you're interested, let me know what features you're looking for and I'll send you a link. I sell for TigerDirect!

I prefer to see something before I buy it, so I don't like buying online or through mail orders... but thanks anyway.

Hello dear corilat. First I have to say that I am still using windows xp instead of windows vista as my laptop is already old. As to the question you have raised, I think that it will be ok as time goes by, especially when you have got used to the layout of windows vista. You know, when something new appears, it will always take some time before we get used to it and start to like it than the previous one. I hope that you will like it soon. Good luck, my dear friend.

Maybe, and hopefully we will, but still...why create something that customers won't like immediately? As I mentioned, I really like the Wizards that let you quickly and easily go through steps to burn CDs and upload photos. I never liked using other programs like Nero because they take too long and are too complicated for what I need. :( Thank you for responding, and I hope you get lots more use out of your laptop!

My husband has started using XP at work, and he hates it. Our two XP machines are both working relatively well, We are deading the day when we will have to replace them. That will not be a good day for us. I hate the way that Microsoft has basically forced people to upgrade, by not including software with new machines.

Do you mean your husband started using Vista? I agree with you, and I don't understand why they've created a new OS with so many things that ppl don't like... upgrading is about getting better, but instead they've taken away the things that were good about their old systems!

Hello corilat, I am not really good about all this. As for me whether it is XP or Vista, I am not really affected with the changes. I seldom use my computer except to surf online, check e-mail and just for a simple chore. I don't hate Vista neither do I love it.
