Have you ever witnessed someone shoplift?

I frequent a lot of stores to check on what items they are selling or what are the latest items they have on display. I also visit my friends who own shops and more often than not, I stay for an hour or more. I have witnessed a lot of shoplifting activities. From the most common styles of shoplifting to the weirdest strategies. I have seen people shoplift small things and big articles alike. In all those instances, I called the attention of the sales clerks or guard or the store keeper. How about you? Have you ever witnessed someone shoplift? What have you done?

I saw many shoplifters I used to work in a store as an attendant I discovered a lot of it myself when I'm in the selling area counting stock for inventory. I saw a different strategies also sometime they were alone sometimes they are many like an ordinary costumer. We caught many of them shoplifting a 1kg. of powdered milk in can would you imagine how they put it behind their legs they were great in doing bad thing they are well trained like a professional shoplifters. One time we caught a shoplifter getting 2 boxes of oral-B toothbrush they were 2 that time the other one pass the goods to the one waiting out side they did not know someone is looking at them and the other one immediately get out but one of my co employee saw it and tell the guard about it we all waited and when they are already out of the store the guard immediately caught the one and my co-employee caught the other one bingo..... I saw many instances of shoplifting we are always ready for it's a part of our job the look around. We immediately report to guard for immediate action.

I've seen it, and I don't bother calling over a worker. I skip the middle man and call the police directly and detain the person myself. Citizens arrest is allowed under certain circumstances in every state except North Carolina. Theft is one of the crimes that permits the use of citizens arrest, and boy does it piss some criminals off.

That's really a simple yet heroic act... I hope more people would do the same...

I did witness one of my friends shoplifting when I was just a teenager. It was a hair spray. We didn't have money then and we were so young we didn't know what's right from wrong. She wanted to fix our hair for a party so she just took it and we didn't get caught..I know i know I was an accomplice but that was way so long ago when I was a kid. Never have I seen someone shoplift again nor never did I go with a bad crowd anymore.

I have never witnessed anyone shoplift, but I have heard about someone shoplift and caught in the end. To shoplift is a great shame to one. In some of the big supermarkets, there can be some shoplifters, but they will be caught anyhow, because the supermarkets usually have a digital camera and many shop assistants working there. Anyone who tries to shoplift will be sent to jail for their wrong doings. I feel sad and ashamed for them.

yes, my best friend shoplifted when we were in high school. we were in a supermarket together, he picked up an eraser, put it in his pocket and walked out without paying. i scolded him about it but his argument was the item didn't cost that much, and it wouldn't hurt the store one bit. now you wouldn't turn in your best friend, would you? :)

yes, in fact I would. A single item doesn't hurt the store, but that doesn't make it ok. If everyone that came through the door stole a 30 cent item, think of how fast that would add up. Shoplifting, even small items like this, contributes to the high prices we pay for groceries. Stores have to raise their rates to cover the large amount of little items that get taken because kids think "it won't hurt the store". Not to mention the fact that if you got caught, you could have BOTH went to jail. A small item like that can still carry a 6 month stay at the iron bar hotel, sure its not a felony, and its not going to destroy your life entirely, but I can think of things I'd rather spend 6 months doing. A true friend wouldn't have put you in that position.

I can't remember seeing anyone doing it, but I remember one time I was carrying a hose and my dad forgot that he even had picked it up. He started to walk out of the store when I reminded him I had it. That is as close as I ever got.

when i first left school aged 16 i worked in a departmernt store in a local town. It was christmas and we sold toys, a young boy maybe 9 or 10 came into the store and put his hand in a boxed game. He took out a dice and put it in his pocket. I was torn what to do, shou.ld i challenge him? but no... I let him go, simply because to challenge him could well have given him a criminal record and i dont think i child needas that blessed be

criminal records under the age of 18 don't stay with you after you turn 18, they can be sealed. So instead, you taught this kid a different lesson, that he could get away with it. Maybe he'll graduate up to cars or something and do real time as an adult, rather than learn his leason on something small when he was 16, good job!

When I was younger, my mom and I stopped at a gas station. She got gas and wanted to get something to drink so I just kind of hung out around the front of the store. When she got what she wanted, she got in line and I stood in line with her just looking around the store. Two younger guys came in and were acting really strange. I remember one guy turned around and did a quick motion with his hand and then both guys acted really weird. The guy that turned his back kept his one hand in his pocket the entire time and kept fumbling with whatever was there. Come to find out, he actually stole a few small things. Like candy and what not. Nothing big so I don't know what the big deal was. As in I don't know why he just didn't pay for what he took. Not like it was that expensive or anything.

I think i would mind my own business unless i thought someone had a weapon or i thought there might be some kind of violence involved.I personally do not shoplift because i like my freedom but i feel if someone else does let them pay the price for it,i would not get involved.

Yes i did witnessed a shoplift. And it was done by a person that i knew. One day me and my officemate went to a department store. We stop by a stall selling fancy jewelry, we try and fit some accessories and jewelries. Then accidentally i saw one of my officemate tried one of the fancy bracelate, she look around and went she feel that nobody will notice her, she insert the bracelet inside her blazer sleeve then away from the jewelry stall. I was totally shock and told my other officemate about it. They told me that she is sick, and she usually get other person things without their knowledge. And that was the last time that i went to the mall with her.

I think that shoplifting is stupid. The items that people take are usually not worth much and certainly not worth the trouble you can get into for doing it. It costs money for the stores to try to stop shoplifting, which eventually means higher prices for consumers. I never witnessed someone shoplift.

The only time i've seen people shoplift are my friends. It's WAY too easy to steal in most stores, one example is futureshop. My buddy would see a game he liked, rip off the strip thingy (that sounds the alarm when passes sensors), walks into the washroom to hide it under his shirt and walk away. Dollar stores are horrible.. no sensors at all, only undercover people (easy to avoid lol). I remember I just walked in and grabbed a pepsi, drank it and walked out..

I've never seen anyone shoplift but I did see a woman acting pretty suspicious. She kept looking around and back to the clothes rack. I didn't say anything, I probably should have but I am too trusting and got to thinking maybe she was looking around for someone she is waiting on.

Yes, I have witnessed shoplifting activities several times. In one instance, I had to call the sales clerk's attention. In another instance, I reported it to the guard. Just like you, I have seen some weird strategies that these shoplifters have.
