I have heard people telling me that the generation before i was born was a much more peaceful time, there was little crime and people dare leave their doors unlocked. However, as a historian I know that there are no peaceful times, the first half of the 20th century had two world wars and crime remains pretty constant. So I got to thinking, isnt it really that we have got old and no longer understand the society in which we live, rather than it being a scary place ?

The world changes too fast bofore we can notice it.
My dad used to tell me,he misses those old days when people were so kind and simple they didn't play trick on each other. He always criticises that our genaration is too hairbrained not honest as they were,we don't work hard as they did,we just want to fool around or something,so on.
I thougt he was just being old, couldn't take the fact the world has changed.
Then one day,my little niece who studies at junior high school, told me something about things happened around her and her classmates .My god, generation gap,I thought to myself,am I being old that I can't understand their thoughts?Guess What?I am only 8 years older than my niece!
Things chang too fast,Maybe we should learn more stuff to catch up with the new world.

I don't understand the society we live in anymore either. It is very scary. I am scared to even leave the house anymore because of it. We cannot even leave the windows open for the house to air out. We have ADT home security because we have been burglarized three times before moving here.

It is a terrible feeling, my point is that this sort of thing has alwzays happened. Crime does not vary over time, but our perception and awareness of it certainly does

Hi Eskarenai what you said is true I too heard like that but whats wrong with this generation I too don't know. one of my friend told me that these days we can't live if we are too true coz truth doesn't lead us to what we want. another friend told me again that we should live life with truth. truth can't be separated from us if their is not true we can't survive. again another friend told me live just or live life that you should never care for other coz life is not easy. thanks

Bad things have always happened but we didn't necessarily always hear about it years ago because the media coverage was more local rather than country or worldwide, now it is instant online and on TV so we are more aware. Us ageing is also a contributary factor as how many of us ever watched the news or read a newspaper as children to know what was happening. Ellie :D

no...that's not it. Even tho the vietnam war was going on while I was growing up, it still was much more peaceful locally than it is now. There was crime, of course, but it was still shocking then for it did not happen as often as it does now. My parents never ever locked thier doors. We lived in a wealthy neighborhood....the kind that now a days is perfect target and we would go away for the weekend or the week even and still no breakins. I walked around the city on my own at age 12 and without fear. Heck, I could go for a walk at night without fear. School was a safe place. Never did you hear of kids shooting up teachers and other kids. Times have definitely gotten more violent and scarier.
