This discussion is started with the view of spreading awareness to the people, the development that is taking place in the world today. Be it South America, Africa, Asia or for that matter, any continent in the world, even Antarctica for that matter (though Antarctica is devoid of Trees, but is filled with ice and ice-bergs), forests are being cut down at an ever increasing rate to promote development. Each time you bite into a piece of steak, particularly in Europe, you might be taking a bite out of the Amazon rain forests. An explosion of cattle ranching in the Latin American countries, especially Brazil, has seen the destruction of the Amazon rainforest's increase by over 10%.
The laying of new roads in developing countries, the building up of hydroelectric dams, submerging a huge chunk of the forest land, as part of the reservoir to create electricity etc are contributors to the diminishing forests. Arent there any alternatives for development, without the destruction of forest land?
A country is said to be rich, if it has at least 33% of its land territory under forest cover. This is hardly 20% in the current world, if you take the average for the whole globe. The government is taking measures to control deforestation, but till now nothing seems to be working out. The entire world is heating up more and more and we are looking on from the Sidelines. Its time for us to act. Contribute your views to this crisis the human race is facing now and lets urge the policy makers of our respective countries and states to take steps to curb this hazardous activities and help us tide over the crisis.
