I have a lovely boss and he never actually acts like a boss with me. He is a director and I am the HR Manager and report directly to him. He trusts me with all manner of confidential info about the staff but he is nice with all the staff. If people do not do their work (which rarely happens) he will tell them quite bluntly to pull their socks up. If they are facing personal problems he is very supportive about it and not one person here has a bad thing to say about him. Some of the other directors get a bit annoyed with him because he defends his staff so much but they have unrealistic expectations of my colleagues and he will rightly stick up for them even at the cost of falling out with his own peers! This is what makes a good boss, someone who knows the true worth of his staff. He also gives us very decent payrises and bonuses so staff are loyal and work their backsides off to stay on his good side :)
