I have two little brothers (one is 9 and one is 11) who both have a nail bitting problem. It seems like they can't go a day without knawing on thier already knubby finger nails. They bite them down to the point where they are red and painful and sometime draw blood. So far i've tried painting their nails with a clear polish that is meant to help nail bitters stop by making their nails taste so bad that they don't want them anywhere near the mouth...but i've had no luck. Does any one know of any other way to help them stop?

I bit my nails for 21 years. I tried all the yucky stuff and the spicy stuff too. I had a boyfriend that would tap them which after chewing them to the nub hurt. The way I finally quit was this. I bought fake fingernails, I didn't want to chew on them, and when I got the urge to chew my nails I would get out the fingernail file and file them instead. Once my nails began to grow I began filing them. I haven't chewed my nails in over 20 years now! I realize you aren't going to put fake nails on boys, but get that fingernail file out.
