I just want to say "THANK YOU!" to everyone out there that gave me ideas for my daughter's 3rd grade science project. She ended up picking an idea up from the stereo speaker suggestion. She came up with the question "Does a speaker make noise when connected to a battery?" She and my husband did some research online, then took the speaker apart to see how it worked. He also helped her make an electromagnet out of some wire and a paper clip. Of course she discovered that the speaker made noise when the ends connected with a battery, but not the music that she expected. She typed up all her info and pasted it on her board. When we took the projects to school (the whole school participats, so my son had one too - we just didn't know that we had done most of it at school until the last week) we passed by my son's classroom. His 5th grade teacher was outside the door and looking at all the project that were passing by. He stopped my daughter and read her title "Speaker Magnet" and said "Wow, that's interesting!" I thought, cool, the 5th grade teacher likes it so, the third grade teacher will love it. But, then I was worried that my son's project was not difficult enough for 5th grade. He set up an open circut with a light bulb to see if different household items would be conductors. That night there was a big open house where you can go and see all the projects. Both of my kids decided to stay by there projects and show people. We took the items in so other people could try it out as well. The 3rd grade teachers actually split there rooms into different categories and you went an voted on which was the best in each group (plants, ecosystems, animals, engergy and earth). There were even raffle prizes from the school. It was lots of fun. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The next day my son brought home he stuff, but my daughter's board was hung in the hallway. Two days ago she got her grade - 16 out of 20 points possible. Then yesterday she brought home the certificate for having the best project in the engergy category. So, thanks to your suggestions - she did really well! Thanks again!
