If you were given a large sum of money..

And could only spend it on yourself.. would you be able to do it without feeling guilty?
What do you think you would buy first?
If I were given a large sum of money to spend on just myself, I think I would have a hard time not feeling guilty about what I was spending and thinking about what other people that I know need more than I do.
If you could do anything you wanted with it, what would you do?
I know we all dream though about what we would do if we won a lot of money.. so please tell me.

Hmmmm... yes I would feel terribly guilty if I couldn't find some way to involve my family, my friends and people less fortunate than myself. So, I would have to think of a way to spend the money, which would benefit all of those.
I think firstly, I would have a village built in the countryside... the main, larger house to be mine, and smaller, yet airy houses in the village to accommodate various families within my own family, and my closest friends. I would also build a respite centre for terminally ill children, a charity I have supported since it began. At present, this charity shares with another respite centre in my county, and have visiting nurses, but it would make my world complete to see them achieve their own centre. I lost my grandson to cancer some ten and a half years ago, and have supported this project ever since, because my family would have appreciated such a centre way back then.
Next, I would take a holiday... there are a few places I would visit but I would take my disabled friend with me to Florida to swim with the Dolphins, which is something that would warm my own heart and be beneficial to me, as I know how much she has always wanted to do that. I'd probably take her son and daughter too, so they could see the happiness on her face!
After that, community health is suffering here, with the closure of hospitals, so I'd probably try to incorporate a hospital within the new community, so that everybody received the best of medical care, whenever they needed it.
Lastly, there are two friends of mine, one in this country, the other on a different shore, who have experienced much trauma with childbirth and children recently. I would like to make their lives as happy and comfortable as I possibly could. They both have big issues to deal with, and one in particular is finding it very hard to come to terms with recent events. It pains me to see this, especially where children are involved, so I would like to give them hope and happiness for the future, in whatever way was necessary. Money can't buy these things, but compassion and care can, and I would do whatever was necessary. The money would just give me the ability to travel to and fro to them, and give everything I can muster to make their lives whole again.
Brightest Blessings... I'm in tears now... wouldn't you know it? A great discussion though, because it brings out people's personalities, and dreams. Thank you, a + rating, I think.

ooh - I love this - a loaded question. I would like to do what would make me feel good and leave it lasting. I would buy my farm ! Stock it with several breeds of goats from the world, and make all the ice cream, and get people to work for me - while I just supervise. SEriously, this is what I would do with it, I would of course go shopping for several new pairs of much needed jeans, a couple of pairs of sneakers and hire someone to do the housework!

I would not feel guilty. The reason is it is not my husband's money, he did not work to earn it, and so I am free of the guilt of "do you really need that." It would also mean that instead of buying that Macpro Computer from the money I earn, I will be able to get it from this large sum of money my "rich uncle" gave me. I can then use more of the money I earned to help others instead of having to use just a little because I was saving for a big ticket item.
Oh and I would want a trip, learn to drive a car, buy a car, go visiting to the States, etc.

If it was really alot of money I would buy a house and then movemyself and my son into it. I would not feel guilty at all because it was for both of us. a house and if there was more money a new car in my name but myson would be the driver. Then if there is any money left I would plant a garden and buy shrubs and trees and flowers. and if there was any money after that I would replish my wardrobe.

I personally think that giving me a large lump some of money, would be great! I wouldn't feel guilty. You also said it has to be only for me right? Well, I have bills that need to be paid, so I would pay those, since they are MY BILLS. When they were all done and paid off I would probably buy myself a new house, and a new car. A large lump some of money would help me out a lot, as I have many money problems right now, and it would solve a lot of them.

If I were given a very sizeable sum of money, I will immediately do five things:
a. give a portion to my church to help their building fund.
b. contribute a part to charity.
c. share some of the money with my mum, brothers and sisters.
d. save a portion, say 20 or 30 percent for my future needs.
e. invest the rest in various financial instruments and the stock market, and make that money grow.
When I am done with the above, I'll probably plan a holiday for my family, take a deserved break and just relax.

I don't know if I would feel guilty or not. I usually get things for my family before I get any thing for myself. I rarely splurge on me and usually cut back on things I need or would like to have for me personally to stay within the budget. I have worked hard for many years and would kinda feel I deserved it. I think that because I always have to use the money sensibly all year if I did acquire a large sum I would splurge on things like a manicure or buying clothes that aren't on sale or on the "clearance rack". Would decorate the house like I would want. Would definetely take a trip and be able to get the nicest room and do what ever I wanted while on vacation. It would be nice for a change not to have limits on what you can spend.

I honestly don't think I could spend a large sum of money on MYSELF without spending on anyone else. LOL
Maybe I would by myself things that I could then pass on to other people when I was tired of it. LOL
Or Maybe things for myself that other people could benefit from....
Like a huge house and a new SUV with a DVD player in it.
This is a good question to ponder.

I would perhaps invest it in a business, then spend for a trip around the world, buy a camera that has a huge memory so that I can store all the pictures there while I travel.

I would feel guilty without question... but I would probably look for the loophole so I could help others, like buying myself a new car then giving my old car to a friend who is really struggling so they could sell it and use the money... they haven't benefitted from the money I was given... they just got my 'old' stuff LOL
My first action would be to pay off my debts of course

As for me I will try and settle any loan installments before considering pampering myself.
However, I may postpone that pampering as well, as I would like to consider changing my lifestyle. In a way, trying to grow my current remaining amount. Reason for doing this is because we can never be young forever and we can't be using our time chasing after money. Today's world has given us opportunities to let our money do the earning in the form of investments. Then, with the money earned will I be comfortable to spend and lavish on myself.
Just my 2 cents worth.

If the conditions say so, what could you do? .It is not my hard earned money then why feel guilty about it .Money spent is better than money not spent .But i won't spend it lavishly just because it is not mine . I will do something which helps me become a better person . and in this intertwined world, no man is an island , your actions will in some way help others though in oblivion .
with regards

if i were given lot of money...
can't imagine. but, if there were, first, donate some of it to charity. Then, use it to build my own business.I'm still working for other people now and i like the idea how to work by myself.

I would not feel guilty whatsoever, as one of the stipulations is that I am forced to spend it on myself. If anything, I'm contributing to the economy. However, I would probably pay off my parents house, as I do live in it.
