Has your home ever been destroyed or badly damaged by fire? how did it start? did emergency vehicles come to the rescue? How about some other disaster such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, mudslides and earthquakes??? have you ever lost your home or belongings by a "natural disaster"?

I feel very lucky to be able to say this has never happened to me! I do know how devastating as my friend around the corner from me lost her house and nearly everything she and her daughters owned due to a house fire! Luckily no one was home at the time and the fire brigade were there very quickly! The saddest thing about it all was not the loss of baby photographs, paperwork or heirlooms, it was the fact that the fire was started by her ex husband! He was mentally ill and I don't think he meant for it to go so far , he thought if he broke in, started a small fire and then put it out he would look like a hero and it got way out of control! I guess that is the way the mind can be affected by mental health problems! xxx

oh lishiwei! that is so sad. I can understand why you would be afraid. Even those who have not had fire incidents are afraid of it happening.

I have been blessed in my life - there have been many 'close calls' but I've been saved. Fire in the kitchen when I was young but mother got it out before the fire department got there, barn near our house totally distroyed by a tornadoe but house wasn't touched, floods from hurricane in Texas had water right up to the bottom of the door but it stopped rising before it entered the house to name a few.

Knock on wood, I've never had that happen to me personally, but during the Oakland fire my aunt and uncle were the very last ones to lose their home which they had owned for years. They had to stand and watch it burn, because the fire fighters were so overwhelmed with the number of fires that had to deal with. Fortunately their church came to their aide and helped them to move into a new home, but they were never able to replace their personal belongings such as pictures, dishes that my aunts mother had left her and things like that.

I've been very fortunate and have never gone through a major natural disaster in my home. I've been through some bad storms, but never experienced severe damage.
