The piggy bank is the best way to teach a child to save money and I think its a good habit for any child to get into. That way there when they are ready to spend it on something that saved for. It makes them feel good knowing its their money buying it and not mommy or daddy.

Since my son was small, I also taught him to save using a piggy bank. We even bought a value meal pack in a fast food just to get the coin bank they are promoting for my son to save on. He had several piggy bank and I also keep my change in mine just to sow that adult also need to save. Also, the money he gets from my relatives during Christmas he gives to me as I put it in his savings account. Now that he is a teen, I make him save from his allowance. Whatever he wants to buy that is not a necessity, he must save for it. I also encourage him to save better by dealing with him. Whatever amount he saves, I will give him the same amount and he must spend it only on the things he wants. I was amazed to hear one day that he had saved about 35% of his savings in 1.5 months! That he wanted to use to buy flowers and for his date. I was also surprised that he also bought me flowers last valentine with his money. Isnt that sweet?

That's very good idea to use piggy bank. I did too when I was a kid. I have no kids yet, but I wondering if I have a kid, I'd like them to start saving their money using the piggy bank too then teach them to spent the money very carefully by thinking of need or want like my dad used to teach me....thx
