Who here has ever made their own Salad Dressing?

I have been googling salad dressing recipes for the past hour. I am about ready to jump in my car and drive 3.5 hours to my all time favorite sushi restaurant just to buy a house salad with sesame dressing because I CANNOT FIND a recipe for it on the internet. Oh don't get me wrong there are 547 recipes for sesame dressing on ONE recipe site alone, but none of them even come close to sounding like what it is I am looking for. The dressing I am trying to recreate is off white in color but not as thick as a ranch dressing but not as runny as a vinagrette. I know that sesame oil, sesame seeds, and dissolved sugar are ingredients but then I fall short on what else it could be. Any help with my sesame dressing would be greatly appreciated. But other than that have you ever tried to make your own dressing from scratch at home? How did it turn out, a culinary masterpiece, or a nearly fatal disaster?

I don't make a lot of salad dressings from scratch because my other half doesn't eat salad and to make it for just me when Kraft is so crafty, just doesn't make sense. We do however eat a variety of pasta dishes and that's when salad dressings come in really handy. Tonight for example I cooked up some miniature multi colored pasta shells of different shapes. In a fry pan I cut some bacon into one inch strips, fresh cut sweet peppers of various colors, mushrooms, fresh garlic cloves, one inch pieces of fresh asparagus, and ground pepper corns. When the pasta was cooked, I took a quarter cup of balsimic vinegar dressings and a quarter cup of sweet and sour sauce and mixed both into the drained pasta. Then I removed the crispy bacon and veggies from the fry pan and dished out the pasta and put the bacon concoction in a snake pattern over the top of the pasta servings. To die for good with a pinch of salt. I love Kraft. When I want a different taste sensation for hot or cold dishes, I mix and match my premade dressings and go to town. I also burp a lot, but in Greek circles that's considered a compliment to the cook.

lets see...if I omit the fungus and the asparagus, and use ham instead of bacon, and find a substitute for the sweet and sour sauce, you may have just given me a recipe for dinner tonight

Picky people make me tired. *yawn* OK. In the interest of *I'll try anything once* I'll try it your way. By the way, bacon and ham come from the same part of the pig. lol

Gosh darn it!!! I just started a discussion about salad dressings, I didn't see yours. Anyway, I gave my copycat recipe for Applebee's Chinese Chicken Salad dressing. If you can't find it, I'll be happy to post it in this discussion for you. I've cut the calories but can put them back in for you if you like! The key ingredients are honey and sesame oil.

I put ranch dressing on just about everything. Chicken, french fries, baked potatoes, salads, I could go on and on.

No, I have never made my own salad dressing. My two favorites are at restaurants too. One is the kind at McDonald's that is on the Asian salad. Thankfully you can buy it at the store and I do. It is the Newman's Own Lowfat Sesame Ginger. The other kind is yellow and I have no idea what it is but we get it on the salads at our Japanese Restaurant. My husband says it is a ginger-mustard kind of dressing. I don't know, I just love it whatever it is!

At the japanese restaurant I go to they only offer 2 kinds of dressing. The sesame one I am forever trying to recreate and a honey ginger one. I wish to god they would just bottle the stuff and sell it!

I ran out of thousand Island dressing once. I had made myself a corned beef sandwich. And i thought it would taste good with it. So I made my own. A little Miracle whip. Then I added some Heinz ketsup. A small spoonful of pickle relish. Give it a stir. It really wasn't bad at all.

I've never been a big fan of thousand island dressing. I don't eat big macs or anything else that has that dressing as an ingredient but now that I know what it is made of I may just have to give it a try. Doesn't sound much different then my typical burger topping.

I actually do not cook like that. But I have also never tried to make my own salad dressing. But that does sound pretty interesting to make your own type of salad dressing. My favorite dressing is Ranch. Maybe one day I will try to make my own salad dressing or maybe I can ask my mom. You no mothers are always trying out something new.

I don't often make salad dressing myself. I like to buy the ready one. I like to eat cooked vegetables better than raw ones.

I mke my own balsamic dressing. But that's about it. I don't really mess with the creamy ones. I'm too lazy frankly. For your dressing have you tried rice vinegar?? I know what dressing your talking about I love it too. I have never attempted to make it though. I run out and grab some from them..but I do know they use rice vinegar and sugar if that helps at all. :)

I have never attempted to make my own salad dressing. I mean don't get me wrong, I would love to make my own salad dressing. I just think that it would probably turn out terrible. I figure the bottle kind works for now and since I don't know how to make my own dressing the bottle kind is all that I have. I wish I could help you out, but on this one I can't.

i prefer not to see a salad dressing as even leaf vegetables have feelings. However, on the odd occasion that I deign to sample such a thing I believe that one could do much worse than three parts extra Virgin olive oil (which itself is an abomination against virgin olives, plucked before they can be f*cked), 1 part Balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. It is the only one that I do, and it has never failed me yet. That doesn't help much does it. However, I do just love to add my little effort to your postings.

I think everyone has made their own EVOO dressing at one time or another. I make one to marinate my italian rubbed chicken in. Thanks for your contribution. I wouldn't want to give you "that" look for not gracing me with your presence.

Oh I have begged for the recipe. I get told "it ancient japanese secret" and they won't sell me a mason jar full of it so when I do go there I buy 5 house salads and get the dressing put on the side in a container and bring it home that way.
