Whats So Wrong with choosing Hillary based on her Gender?

I have to say that I feel perfectly fine in saying that part of my decision of choosing Hillary as my vote IS Gender. As a woman I believe I have every right to do that, I mean come on SOMEONE has to have womans interest in mind. Certainly, Governor Spitzer's mishap with his prostitue friends and disgracing his two daughters and wife CERTAINLY DIDNT have womans interest in mind. It goes much farther, how about woman and social security? Why is it that we take a huge loss when we want to raise our young kids, I mean the men aren't rushing to physically raise them so someone has to do it! What about woman who are looked on as useless in most cases once they reach their 50s and find it impossible to get hired but men can go until their 70s? I believe Hillary has had the years of experience in Healthcare and woman are the highest in heart disease, what about having babies, what about raising children, healthcare is a womans issue as well. I just am annoyed when the media keeps pointing that out as if its so bad and the woman's rights movement has not been completed as far as Im concerned.

I am totally with you on the woman's issues thing but Hillary still wouldn't get my vote for the first woman president....I would rather vote for our Sec. of State Ms. Rice...man that woman rocks! Did you ever see her in front of the committees how well she handled the badgering? How about how she handles the foriegn leaders? She is very qualified! anyway...it's time. Woman should have more leverage.

Condolezza Rice club hooked up next to Martha Stewart, yes!! I don't want to give the impression that I am SOO in awe over Hillary Clinton and I have been finding her to continually allow Bill Clinton to be her spokesmodel distasteful and I wonder if she has the backbone without him assisting her, BUT I do thing the time is WELL DUE to get the BALL ROLLING!!! Here it is 2008 and woman still playing the homemaker role even with high paying jobs we suffer not being able to raise our kids efficiently because its either chooose your job or have someone replace you. I CANT stand that in the mans situation either and SOMEONE needs to say HEY someone needs to be raising these kids, not the daycare, or grandma, good quality time. Maybe we need to do like SPAIN and have a few hours each day where EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN but after ALL THIS TIME do you really think 3 hours would slow the racing minds of those constantly thinking about their jobs. Its a evil machine corporations have created. I think Martha Stewart is my idol because she is such a strong WOMAN, yes, she had a fall of character but I do believe she has redeemed herself and its so much more interesting NOW :) Oprah, yea, now thats a team. Anyways, my point being is that woman have ALOT TO GIVE TO THIS COUNTRY and not just raising kids but our instinct to give our kids the best life is CERTAINLY a great motivator for rightful lawmaking, not just money incentives for the lawmakers that never makes it back to the common man.

I don't dislike Condi Rice, in fact I think she has much more intelligence and integrity than either Bush or Cheney, but I question her qualification particularly after her post-9/11 comment that nobody would have guessed terrorists would use airliners as missiles when there had been a recent memo that said just that. I'll give her credit for having more diplomatic skills than anyone else in this current Administration. Annie

Would you be upset if I said I Won't vote for her Because she's a woman? That is exactly the same thing as voting for her because she is a woman. It is like voting for the person you think is better looking rather than the better candidate. I understand that women's issues need to be given some serious attention. But I don't think that a presidential election is the right forum for the women's rights movement. I think that the election should be an unbiased look at who is the best candidate for the job. Who will have the best interests of the majority of the country in mind when making decisions. And if you want to talk about the women's rights movement- do you think Hilary made strides in the women's movement by standing by Bill's side as he went through the process of his ordeal when he was in office. He didn't have women's interests in mind, either. Do you think she was being an independent woman by sticking with him when he cheated so publicly, and then made a spectacle of himself and a joke of the whole situation by lying about it? And you can be certain that if Hilary is in office that he will be there helping wifey out in her new job. He has experience, too.

Whats So Wrong with choosing Hillary based on her Gender? Well thats a good question. I dont think anything is wrong with voting for her, because she is a woman. As long as that is not the only reason you are voting for her. I want someone in office, who is going to try to make a difference, someone who believes in the things I believe in. Someone who care about our children, etc. So if there was a 60year old Hispanic, that believed in what I want, I would vote for him/her. I do think its wrong to vote for someone based on there gender or race only. I dont think it helps get anything accomplished, or proves anything. Whoever will be proactive, and work on fixing our country is best for the job!

I do think you have better ground getting laws passed that will benefit woman if their is a woman president in office but I do know it is not that easy. I try to research my local representatives and those in surrounding states and encourage them to pass certain laws that acknowledge womans rights and these are the people who are gonna get it there. We just need to build this network NOW, I do not think that Hillary Clinton is going to be the answer and thats it, I think that is naive and goes into this instant gradification model all around us, BUT I do think we need to begin somewhere. I think it will take 10 woman presidents to get to where we need to be and really feel alot of hope when I see all the woman ambassadors and presidents being elected in Africa, maybe they have something to teach us in the future as far fetched as it may SEEM in their current status but Im an optimist with these things.

The way I look at it our gender is part of what we are and when we choose who to vote for we have many things to choose from as to why we vote for a particular candidate. In the past, every serious Presidential candidate has been, among other things, a white male; that isn't the case this election for the first time in our history. The fact is, your vote is your own business and nobody else's so there's nothing wrong with choosing Hillary based on her gender but I would hope that wouldn't be the only deciding factor for you or anyone else. I agree, it's about time a woman has a real chance. The woman's rights movement certainly has not been completed and I wonder if it ever will be, but just having a front runner for the President of the United States is a step in the right direction. I personally think presidents should be voted on based on their qualifications and their stance on critical issues. I don't think gender or race but be a contributing factor. As a voter (regardless of your gender) you have the right to vote for whomever you want, for whatever reason you want. If you want to vote for her because she's blonde, go for it. That's your prerogative. Personally, I think you have a lot of angst and you're treating this election as an opportunity to vent it. You probably agree with Hillary's politics so I'm betting you'd choose her over McCain even if she were a man. Personally I've never seen Hillary take a stance on women's issues. She never seemed concerned with how women were treated in Afghanistan. She never said a word when a woman in Sudan was going to be caned and imprisoned for naming a teddy bear Muhammad. Aside from abortion, I've never seen her take a stand on anything that concerned women. All the same, vote for her. Please choose her over Obama. They both stink, but I think he's much worse for this country than she is. I'll be voting for McCain when the time comes to elect our next president.

Good for you. You know your issues, you know what your candidate stands for. It sounds to me like you are voting for her for all the right reasons. I don't like her and I won't vote for her, but I'm glad you are voting for her based on knowledge rather than gender alone. I can assure you, some people are just voting for the "not Bush" candidate. I even had a guy come to my library once asking if Clinton or Obama were republicans. He than asked if republicans were the ones we wanted to get out of office. He had no idea who was what party or what either party or candidates stood for. He just wanted to vote for whoever wasn't a republican. It's voters like that who worry me.

Well most people don't bother to examine the issues. Most people think Obama brings change and Hillary brings experience. Now they don't know what kind of change he would bring, or what experience Hillary has beyond being married to the president, but that's what they've heard and what they base their votes on. Oddly enough I've heard very little from voters in the republican primaries. I've worked in libraries for the last four years so I get to hear voter's opinions all the time.

wow that is really sad that someone would actually be that clueless. I volunteered at my primary and precinct caucus. I asked people who they were voting for and why just to get an idea. I had a lot of time to stand around. Hillary supporters kept saying she has experience and added detail to support their choice, Obama supporters said because "this is history" and could offer nothing more. I was amazed that they dont even realize that every day is history, every new president is history, every minute is history. just amazing

I wouldn't vote for a woman based soley on her gender. For instance, if Condi Rice ran for President (God forbid), I certainly would not vote for her. People always seem to be comparing Condi Rice and Hillary Clinton. Why? There is absolutely nothing that they have in common except that they are women...or is Condi the drag queen she appears to be? Hmmmm. Anyway, I have watched Condi kiss Bush and Cheney's behinds long enough. She makes me sick. My vote will go to Hillary; and part of it may be because she is a woman. But the main reason I will vote for her is she has answers to the problems we are facing as a people and as a country. I think she will make a great President! It's about time America had a woman as President...we are so far behind other countries in that respect.

Honestly, I do not know alot about Condi because of the fact that I, like you, was put off by her being partner in crime with Bush and Cheney but from what I have read in previous post I certainly will read up on her to see her previous experience. And, like you, I don't get it either, WHAT IS IT, that this country has with electing woman officials because we ARE different compared to other countries in that respect.

I think that you would be stupid to vote for a president based solley on there skin color or there gender. Would you by a car only bc of what color it was.. or only because it had a certain engine. No, you wouldnt. So why would you select your presdent on such racist terms. Healthcare is an AMERICAN issue, it doesnt matter what gender you are its an american issue. EVERYONE is effected by it, everyone needs it. Its not just women.

gender has nothing to do to serve the people.wether ur a man ,woman lesbian, gay.its the heart to serve the people..who has it? we should be smart(we always get disappointed tho)in choosing the president or whatever position they will sit.i think we shud look out the track record.hillary clinton is the wife of bill..so expect the america to be bill's govt again. people will decide..good luck
