Aiming Higher

I had a discussion with my dad earlier, and he was saying that nowadays the standard that a young person has to be to be successful and live a life with good standards of living are getting higher. Maybe it sounds a bit like snobbery, but I agree in that "middle-class" needs a lot more skill nowadays, and jobs that before were respected trade s are now jobs that anybody could do. I am still undecided for what I want to be when I am older, but now I am starting to consider pushing myself to be a surgeon or a lawyer. What are your thoughts on this?
