I write, I write, I write...

Some would say I have a problem communicating, others think I am just snobby, the truth is I love to write. I write about everything. The people in my life, the problems I face, my accomplishments...I write it all down. Compulsively maybe, but still I love to write. Why is it some of us can write about anything, but when it comes to talking to people, we can't articulate what it is that we are trying to convey? Do any of you have this problem? Do share your thoughts.Thank you in advance-Heidi

Hi jerritts1mom. That sounds a lot like me too. But I'm not great at writing either. Though I'd much rather describe my feelings through writing then speaking any day. I don't even like to talk on the phone because I loose my train of thought or I can't think of the words I want to use fast enough to keep my side of the conversation going smoothly. I started having these senior moments when I was about 25, lol. When I write an email or a discussion I can change things if I'm not satisfied with the way it sounds. But when I am speaking with someone live, I usually end up putting my foot in my mouth before its over. i hope you don't have any those problems.

I am afraid it's too late..I do have these moments, which is where my love for writing came in to play. I used to have major anxiety, now not so much, but I would still rather write than speak :)

I have always been better at writing my thoughts than speaking them. I am a bit shy at times. I collect my thoughts on paper (or text) better than if try to gets all my points across during a conversation.

Writers by nature are considered to be loners. And loners don't communicate well with people. We would rather spend our time writing or reading. I sure do cherish my time alone after everyone is in bed or when DH works nights. And my mother called me a loner as a teenager. She said she was shy when she was younger and people thought she was a snob. People are so quick to judge. Just keep doing what you feel comfortable with.

You have me pegged, I have always CHOSEN to be a loner.Less to worry about I guess, but it is nice for people to "GET" you,and comunication helps.I will keep doing what feels comfortable for me though, thank you!

Hello Heidi. We are unique individuals with different gifts. Some are gifted on writing, some with talking. It's not something you should worry too much. Keep on writing and if you want to develop articulating your thoughts, you can practice alone!

I suppose you are right about that...I sometimes think of it as a curse rather than a gift though...of course I will still write on :)

I also experience that way before. I think when I was in grade school that's the time when I realize that I love writing. It is also those years that I developed it and I was encouraged by my teachers to pursue it. It went on until high school until today. I write more when I am upset LOL. I even believe that I express myself better in writing than in talking- verbal communication. But I guess when I am applying for jobs after I graduated from college, I felt the need of being also good in speaking words, not just in writing them. When you get to interviews and all, they will not ask you to write but to talk. When I get to the job, when communicating to your boss, during meetings and with management asking you for some explanation about your work, usually they want me to talk. So I practice, slowly, until I can patch things up. Right now, I am still learning and I am getting good at it. But still my first love would be writing. =)

well see, that's where you and I differ. My problem isn't talking to strangers, that seems easy to me,it's talking to people I already know and am close to.Doesn't make much sense, but that's how it is...thank you for your response.I truly appreciate it :)

I have a job, which surprisingly enough pertains to speaking to people.Strangers are easier to relate to or converse with for me, since they don't know my background, or my weaknesses so to speak. I always try to hear the other person out, I believe everyone has something you can learn from, and an interesting story to tell.I love people in general.I just have a problem talking to people that have just as much to say as I do...I am not sure if is intimidation, but I have a problem talking to people I know sometimes, and want to earn their respect and approval. It's strange, and very very frustrating for me.

I have no problem articulating, I'd just rather write, than have to deal with people on a regular basis. Through writing, I can get my thoughts and opinions out there without haing to deal with a lot of the every day crap that people dish out. Writing is my way to distance my way from society without isolating myself completely.
