When friends say, "I am just at your back."

Do you ever ask yourself why friends say, "I am always at your back," when you have problems? Why the expression, "at your back?" Couldn't it be in front or at your side? Is it because friends are there push you further to move on even on the face of many trials? Do they really give you a push? Do you have those kind of friends? What do you think?

I have never heard that expression, but have heard "I've got your back" meaning I support you in whatever decision you make. I'll be there for you kinda saying, that's how I interpret that.

Yes, I agree with you. It's better said, "I've got your back." Thanks!

I also think that it has two meanings. One is their always there to support you in whatever decisions you'll make. The other is somehow a threat.

I would rather have a friend by my side. It's better to have someone hold my hand, or someone that I can lean on when I really need someone. Maybe this expression is more appropriate for someone who does need a little pushing to move on or push forward.

Most of the time in our lives, it is the confidence of feeling that we have a lot of friends behind us, helps us achieve certain difficult tasks on our own. In exceptional cases, the friends who are on back of us really get involved in solving our difficulties. As far as possible, it should be avoided and to be used only when it is inevitable. The practice of trying to do on our own makes one self reliant and it becomes a good habit.

Agree, we cannot depend solely on our friends. We also have to depend and trust what we can do! Great one ssh123, the top poster. Whew!

my son says got your back, what it means is when you are walking away you don't see anything behind you, only in front, if somebody is at your back they will protect you from danger you do not see anymore, like a guy that wants to stab you in the back.

It's a sign or gesture of support, of whatever we do and endeavors we take up in the future, they just want to remind us that they are there.. Some even say that they're on our side, especially when we know we couldn't take too much pressure anymore and that's where they come to help us. For me, it could be a push or an inspiration. I also look at it as a challenge, to how much I could take and endure it.. My friends are without a question, very supportive and does understand the way one of us feel.

True! As long as we got them, we feel their support even if it's not evident. It makes the journey light.

This is because friends are there to push us towards accomplishing our goals. They also push us when we somehow lost the energy to do so. They are also "at our back" to catch us if we fall. I am blessed to have this kind of friends.

i think friends are always at your back so they will be the ones to push you when you are close to giving up. they catch you on your back when you are about to fall - or faint perhaps. :) i dont really know for sure... but friends can't be in front of us cause they are to leave us that way... they cannot be on our side cause who will catch you both? :)

..and I agree that you have friends in full support. So, when your friends fall, you pull them up so that still they will be there to push you further. Great one!

My friends have got my back so that nobody will stab me in the back while I'm solving my problems. I can fight what I can see and they take care of the rest. Figuratively, of course!
