Which course that you've taken has been the most valuable?

I was flipping through our local college's prospective for adult students today, wondering about taking an evening class. It got me thinking about the type of course I'd like to take, and how useful previous courses have been to me.
I think that recently the courses that I've gained the most from have been ones where I've learnt a practical skill rather than done purely academic learning. Since I left study full time I'm not very good at sitting down and doing book learaning, so I don't do my homework and therefor don't make the most of purely academic courses.
I've done some craft courses which I've really enjoyed as i've been doing something totally different.
Which course have you taken recently that's been the most valuable? Why was that? What did it teach you? You might inspire me to do something new this year!!

well right now i am going to a community college and i thought i wanted to change my major to criminal justice but i still wanted to do nursing and i only have 6 classes left then clinicals before i would become a lpn so with all this thought and agony about what i want my major to be i finally decided to get my associates in nursing and then once i get a good job doing that i can go back and become a forensic nurse. but the classes i've taken so far are criminolgy and crime scene processing they are helpful courses . i've learned how to photograph crime scenes and lift finger prints in the crime scene processing class. i really enjoy myself. i did learn that csi is so fake no real crime scene is like that they re being so dramatic but its still my favorite show!!!

I'd love to do some courses on animal keeping, permaculture and self sufficient living. But it's very rare to find a course that has any sort of government subsidy in those areas, which makes them very expensive. I also like to get a recognised certificate / qualification at the end of any course I do.

I graduated with a journalism degree, but while studying I was writing and getting published too! I guess the course as a whole has helped me until this day as I do writing and photography. But since I am now in a german-speaking country, english is really useful, especially in teaching kids and also translation work which gets paid much too!

Hello GreenMoo! I feel like the course that I have taken that has been most valuable to me is a career discovery class that I took during my nineth grade summer. I feel like this class was valuable to me in many ways, for one it help my really evaluate my character. We took a self evaulation quiz and it helped me get a better visual of how my attitude was and how I felt about certain situations. I am so happy because now I have a more positive outlook onlife and I don't allow the small things to keep me down long. My career discovery class also helped me find away to earn money and be able to give back to my community. See if i become a doctor or a proscutor then I can help protect people in my community but at the smae time give back to the community in the process of my work. The career discovery class helped me learn to that it is better to help out the elderly then to always go out with friends. My nineth grade summer was great we took the elderly to the zoo and to the county fair. They told us stories and share wisdom and their ensights on the importance of education and life situations. They told us to keep our heads up and keep pushing forward.

That sounds like a fabulous class. If you don't mind my asking, as I'm not in the US, how old are students in the ninth grade?
My own careers advice sessions at school were absolutel rubbish and didn't teach me anything at all, so it's refreshing to hear from someone who gained so much from them. Was it a long course, or just a couple of sessions?
Spending time with the elderly is very rewarding. I used to drive for a charity which worked with the elderly and really enjoyed it. We took a group out to tea each time, at someone's house. They loved it, and so did I!

The course that was the most valuable to me was accounting. I took it in my senior year of high school. I have used what I learned all my life. Either just doing my own budget or posting purchases in my Quicken. My daughter went on to be a CPA so I don't have to do my taxes anymore. Good luck in what ever you pick.

I think that schools should all teach classes in basic accounting. I don't mean high level stuff, but I don't think kids come out of school with enough understanding of basic budgeting to run a home these days. It's why so many people find themselves in difficulties.
