I want a wedding, but I need it to be inexpensive!!

My fiance' and I have already announced to our parents that we are getting married May 3rd, but we are not sure if we can have a wedding! I want a simple and inexpensive wedding, and not have to just go to the court house. I have a friend that had a wedding under 1,000, and she said it was very nice and how she wanted it! All I thought was "How is that possible?!" Could someone please help me and lead me in to right direction? My parents don't have it, and my fiance' is going to be just graduating on May 3rd and still have some more college to go. HELP PLEASE!!

Well Mrs there is a few things that you could save on. I do catering and therefore have seen quite a few weddings in my time and there is some fabulous things you can do to save money. Like on your cake, don't buy one, ask a friend, or do it yourself and just bake a couple of batches of those individual cakes. I call them fairy cakes but I don't know what you would call them. You know the individual spong cakes in cases. if you bake off a few batches of them you can arrange them in on a circular three tier cakes tand that I am sure one of your parents friends would own and be willing to loan you. You could aswell put in with the invitation that as you are a young struggling couple that you don't wish for presents but wish for a small donation of cash that will be put towards the cost of the wedding. Make sure that you state though that it is going towards the cost of the wedding and people will be sure to give generously because they understand that for every person you invite the cost rises. Dont feel bad about just giving people a one course meal. As long as it is nice food they can enjoy then they will be more than happy. Most people actually prefer one course anyway as there is nothing worse than being overfed. Something I seen recently was somone laying on brilliant meal for a silver wedding anniversary. The couple explained that when they were getting married they had no money and asked people to bring along as their present something to add to the buffet. Obviously people brang alot a little more than the equivlent of what they would eat and they promised in return that on the silver anniversary everyone would be bought a delicious meal in return. I thought this was such a lovely idea. Don't pay someone to do invitations. Do them yourself. With some nice card and tissue it is amazing what you can do yourself.
