How would you celebrate your birthday when you are alone? April 4th will be my 23rd birthday. But i'm not looking forward to it so much, because i feel a bit alone.I'm now a postgraduate who studies in a university away from home, so i can't spend my birthday with my family. I do have a boyfriend, but he works in another city ,and it will take me 28 hours to his city by train. and yes, i do have classmates, but all of them have their boyfriends , i don't want bother them. So what about you guys? What's your advice?

Happy birthday!!! I'm not sure what to tell you. When I was younger, I didn't like birthdays because I was always alone. I didn't have many friends, but when I was in 6th grade, all the girls in my class gave me a surprise birthday party. They told me we were doing a science experiment at a friend's house and I believed them. I was very surprised to see more than the few girls I thought were going to be there. As far as now, I avoid birthdays. Of course that is because it just means I am getting old (I am old enough to be your mom). I was in Thailand for my birthday this year and I was sick. My nephew wanted me to go out and get drunk but I couldn't. Not that I would want to. I am happy to just be by myself. What do you like to do that you could do by yourself? Treat yourself to a movie or something. If your friends don't want to join you they don't have to. I know a lot of people around here like to go to KTV or kareoke. Maybe you could get a group of your friends (and their boyfriends if that would encourage them to go) and do something. You might be without yours, but at least you wouldn't be alone. Good luck with finding someone to enjoy your birthday with!!!

Thank you, daeckardt. I've decided to celebrate my birthday alone this year. I should have started to experience loneliness, because sooner or later in my life, i will be alone. It's impossible that there always be someone by my side.maybe i will go out to a restaurant , have a nice meal and then go for a movie, anyway, thank you for your advice.

i have three children and a husband. i don't celebrate birthdays anymore. LOL! No, usually my mother cooks me dinner, but i guess if i didn't have anyone around for my birthday i would rent a couple of movies and just sit on the couch all night watching them. to me, they really aren't that special anymore anyways. i'm 28 now and it's just another year to me. i wouldn't care, really, if i ever celebrated another birthday or not. i'm not down on myself about it, they really just don't mean much to me anymore. just another day and another year past. God bless

Yes, maybe a few years later when i become a wife and a mother for several children, i will not care much about birthday, because family and children can bring you so much happiness. But since i'm now a single girl, having not so many happy things happened in my life, i don't want to miss my birthday. If i let my birthday go without doing anything special, i will feel pity.

I've spent so many birthdays and other holidays alone, it doesn't bother me anymore. If you're used to being with family or friends, I don't really have any advice for you. If you don't mind celebrating alone, you could find something nice that you've been wanting to do and treat yourself on your special day.

You know lovelemonlee, I am thinking of spending my birthday alone for this year. I have spend my birthdays with a lot of people- my family didn't miss it, sometimes my birthday falls on a working day- i still go to work and celebrate it with workmates, in some previous years I had spend it with close friends and my boyfriend. Still haven't decide what to do yet on that day LOL. I probably got to read people's responses on this discussion of yours to get some tip. LOL =)

For the last few years, I've always spent my birthdays alone. Ever since I got divorced 4 years ago, I've never really celebrated my birthday. I'm hoping this year would be different. This year, I'm going out with someone and my birthday's just around the corner. Hope this year I don't spend my birthday getting drunk on my own and end up sleeping in the car.

First of all, Happy Birthday! Be nice to yourself, even though you are alone. Get yourself something good to eat or go to some places where you have been looking forward to and have fun. I hope you'll have a different birthday this year!

LoL. Worst, drunk.. sleeping in the car parked just below a friend's Apartment??!!!! Have you ever realised how easy it is to look back on events that happened a year or more in the past and see if not perfection but flaws in them? For most of us this is true even for situations which tragic, horrible or devastating at the time. (SIGH) Is it possible to see the perfection in those things a year later? Well perhaps the perfection has to be there in the moment it happens? Well whats more worst then drunk sleeping in the car? Happy Birthday.

Hmmm, considering the situations of those that you could invite celebrate with on your upcoming birthday, I must say that maybe, perhaps, they could set aside that date just to hang out with you on your day. Same goes with your partner. They could still make reservations for that day, I hope. I mean, even if they do have their partners, a day with a close friend to celebrate her birthday once a year isn't too much to ask, right? Aside from family members, I'm more on celebrating with close people I know. I would hang out with them and most often, I don't tell them that its my day. Just to see if they remember or not at all Well, hope they could reserve that date to be with you. Advance by the way

Indeed! You may even get SMS from them, greeting you on your day. Anyway, yeah, a day on your own ain't a bad idea at all. Doing such things that you would like to do that you don't normally get the chance to when your around with other people and occupied with things like work. Its just that, I have spent some of my birthdays alone and it usually goes like a typical day. It would be better if something memorable happened. Just want something memorable to happen on such days of course. Well, I hope something pleasantly surprising happens! even when your just by yourself.

I always spend my birthday alone, only because my hubby is at work and the kids are at school, it does not bother me, I just find ways to treat myself alone! Just treat yourself to your favourite things, pamper yourself and show yourself how special you are! It can be just as much fun on your own as it is with someone else.

frankly speaking,i spent my birthday alone mostly.my parents pay no attention to it,which rather due to habit not unconcern. i remember my 24th birthday in university vividly.my room mates gave me a surprise.they pretended to be normal in front of me,and put gifts on my bed.it was really a big surprise for me.i was deeply moved at that moment.as for many years,i have been used to neglect it and spent a lonely birthday. i though i can work well without it,while regard and wish from others still touched me. gradualy i learn that keep alone is ok,whenas share with friends is probably better if allowed.

If i can spend my birthday at home with my family, it would be very happy, because my mom would make me some delicious dishes which i like to eat and buy me a big birthday cake. Pity, i'm not at home now. So i guess i just have to adapt being alone. I've decided to celebrate my birthday alone this year, and enjoy myself.

Happy birthday to you! May be you don't believe what i say that i always forget my birthday! It seem that the birthday is not important for me .So i won't care what is the date is my birthday. And sometime i am afriad to face my birthday, cause i don't know how to celebrate my birthday lol. And i suggest that you can buy some thing which you want and love on the day of your birthday .I think that will help you to be happy :)

Some people just like me consider their birthday to be an important day to them, but there are indeed some people who don't lay emphasize on their birthdays and just consider it ordinary. So i'm not surprised at what you said at all. But it's a chance to be self-indulgent, so why not seize it? PS: Thank you for your best wishes and advice!

There is only one day called birthday among the 365 days in a year, i want something special. You don't need to spend too much on it,just make it a little different so that you can remember it.

Yes, i know, April 4th this year is the QingMing festival in China. And i was so upset when i know this. But later, i didn't care it much. Spending my birthday with my boyfriend seems impossible because i don't have so much time and not enough money to pay for the travel fees. But i'm sure even alone , i'll have a happy birthday. Because i have received so many birthday wishes from mylotters here.

well, i always celebrate my birthday alone because my birthday is on January 24th which is the day most of the people go home to have get-together with their family that no one celebrate my birthday except my family. but in fact, my family members also have no time to celebrate my birthday so i always celebrate it myself by doing some interesting things such as shopping, watching tv, chatting online. actually, i think you are a little bit lucky because your birthday isn't on vacation so you can celebrate it with your friends. you said that they all have their boyfriends and you didn't want to bother them. however, in my opinion, you can invite your friends and also their boyfriends to a birthday party that you can celebrate your birthday as well as not bothering them. in a way, i don't think celebrating your birthday alone is a bad thing. when i am alone, i will think of myself and my plan in my new age. i will dream a lot to make myself satisfied.
