When they getting bigger, they are not cute anymore. The more they get big the more worry i am. then they stared to swim up side down with the belly up. I don't know how to help him and it is hopeless. I always change the water and feed them well. I ever ask my brother about this (he is a vet) but he said that is it not his major to take care of fish. Then i said to him, but there is a vet that taking care of dolphin and killer whale! he said. they are more like mamal. And then he said may be your fish is too old. i want a gold fish that don't have swollen belly. This is makes me sad!

Gold fish is cute. But I dare not take the challenge to keep them, because I have heard that they die easily if the owner's do not keep good care of them. I think you are good because you can keep them until they are growing into a bigger size. There might be nothing wrong about the swollen belly, but it's really not a good sign to have them swimming up side down. Fish which are very sick only will swim in that way. It had been quite some ago, just wonder how is your fish now? I hope you have overcome that problem already.

Ya, guppy are more tough. I used to keep that too! They can breed a lot if you know how. I love those tiny little guppies with colourful fins. But all of them are gone long time ago but they will always remain in my childhood memory. Air in the stomach? Poor gold fish and I hope you could get over it. Thanks for dropping by discussion and have a nice day!

Hi Cheongyc, Yes, they don't have long live. My father choose guppy now, when i visit home last lebaran. Guppy are cute too. And when they die, i think because they are more little than the goldfish, my stomach doesn't hurt bad as a gold fish. i think my gold fish has swollen air as well. so they swimming up side down. Poor thing. I don't want to have gold fish anymore. I will visit your discussion after this. see you there!

Hi,Diansinta. Actually,I've been Indonesia three times last year, most time stay in Jakarta, once we went to the place just opposite to Bali, we can see Bali over the blue sea. In fact, there are so many beatiful fishes and corals in Indonesia as it's the islands country, and many foreign people purchase fish & coral there, right. You are lucky, you can see different beatiful fishes anytime, hehe Well, take care of your little goldfish.....

There could be a few things wrong. Based on swollen belly and inability to control swimming, I would assume that there is a problem with its swim bladder and your fish will die soon. Other things that can cause a swollen belly are internal parasites and illnesses which can be hard to treat. What do you feed your fish and how much? How often do you change the water?

Remember that goldfish are related to carp, and some fish sold as goldfish are actually carp. Therefore, many goldfish get very large. They are wonderful and beautiful big or small. But if you don't want them to get huge, then take care and choose a different species. There are many kinds that stay small. Guppies are very hardy and they stay small. Just take care to seperate the girls and boys otherwise they will multiply faster than you can manage them. Freshwater beta fish stay small too. Goldfish also like clean water. But be careful not to clean your bowl or tank with bleach and then put the fish in as it will kill them. They also have the stress coat you can use. If you can't keep up with it and your tank is usually not pristine. Consider getting a molly. (always get at least 3 fish as they like to live in schools). black mollies like slightly dirtier water than goldfish do

i think they have swollen belly and swim upside down because they swallow too much air especially when they eat on the water surface. i used to have a couple of goldfish like that. i read that instead of feeding them food that floats (like flakes) you should try food that sinks to the bottom (like pellets). that way your fish will eat without swallowing air at the same time.

Admittedly they look adorable and attractive with their beautiful silky fins. I like watching them swimming elegantly and relaxingly in the crystal clear water with fresh greenish aqueous plants as background. Pet is just like our kid and we will worry much about it, if it happens to be unhealthy or abnormal. Hope that your lovely gold fish still swimming happily in the tank as before. Happy posting and take care.

Fancy goldfish (the ones with two tails and look like a golf ball in shape) have a swim bladder that is shaped like a long tube instead of a "balloon". Sometimes the swim bladder will get pinched in the middle and more gas will be in the lower part of the bladder so that the goldfish will swim upside down. This may or may not hurt the goldfish, depending on it's cause. If it is diseased you might be able to help by medicating the fish with a good medicine for that (ask in your fish store about one that is for swim bladder disease). Or you might have a fish that is swallowing too much air when it eats which then you need to feed sinking foods so that your goldfish does not swallow too much air. As lo make sure that each goldfish has 20 gallons of water so that it can live properly and grow right. Goldfish are dirty fish and need to have good filtration going and also partial water changes of about 20 to 30% each week. Good luck with your goldfish.

Hi friend, i am the same as you. i have love goldfish since young but my father says its hard to rear as it always die after couple of months after we bought them. So my dad had given up raising goldfish and he rears guppies now which is easier. Rearing goldfishes takes more effort because the temperature of the water must be correct if not they will die easily. cya around
