Have you been thought older/younger than your actual age??

This "condition" has been plaguing me for sometime now. When I was on my previous job, when I tell them (mock-seriously) that I'm 29 years old (as opposed to 25, which is my actual age), they sincerely believe me.
A rather funny incident concerning this, happened when I was 16 years old. I went to our local cinema which was showing an R-18 film at that time (Event Horizon and Kiss the Girls), just to see if I would pass, and I did (remember, this is a provincial cinema, so they can't be bothered with such things as asking for a proper ID)! I concluded that I look a lot older (and yes, several people have commented that I have a "mature" face...I'm not sure if I'll be flattered or offended, mostly I just laugh it off)
Then on my current job, I told them my actual age...and they wouldn't believe me, they kept saying that I must be only 22 or 23 (HUH? 0_o - it sure is flattering, but which is which??)

hitomi!!!
first of all, i am so glad you joined myLot thru my recommendation! yeheyyyy!!! ^__^ i hope you are enjoying your stay here. i really do hope so. and i wish you'll be here forever even if sometimes you get inactive or something.
anyway.. both situations have happened to me. there's really no specific stage of my life that each situation had occurred. when i was young, a teenager, i have been thought of as older by some people and younger by some people. now that i'm old, i have been mistaken to be younger than my age by some people, and some people have mistook me to be older than my real age. .

Well, on my part, I usually get referred as someone older. Maybe because I'm taller than them so they assume that I am older but, more often than not, when I ask about age, (I do so by asking how long have they been doing a particular work, let's say, if they have been working for two years and graduated around twenty one, we could all say that he or she is currently twenty three years old without asking directly, right?) they end up surprised that they are the ones older than I am. But still, they can't help but use formalities or the respectful "po" and "opo" in our country... and depending on the tone on how they say it, we could easily tell if they're modest or simply mocking.
Well, even before that, my father once brought me along to the cinema wherein they were showing free film shows from europe. CinemeEuropa I think during the last quarter of each year. Anyway, I was only sixteen but, since I was tall, the usherette didn't even ask for identifications. The film was mild in its R-18 content so, I guess my father didn't screw up on being responsible or something
It really depends if its flattering or not.

:D Thanks for sharing the experience...yep, "PO" or "OPO" can be good at times especialy if you are "angling" for "respect". There are taxi driver who would tell me "San Ka po ATE?", and they look definitely older than I am. I also get a lot of "Ma'am" from people older than me...hehehe. :D

Hi hitomi, when I am together with my two years older brother, people normally would say I am his older sister, whereas my three years younger brother is always to be mistaken as my elder brother when we are together.
I definitely will feel happy should someone say I look younger. It is the natural reaction of human to feel happy when someone praises us to be younger than our age.
I wonder whether height is a factor which could influence the concept of age. I am taller than my elder brother and shorter than my younger brother.

Hi there! Actually, something like that happened when I was with my younger brother as well, someone asked if he was the "older" one since he's way taller, so yes, probably height has something to do with it as well ;D

i am 37 and it is okay for me if people will say i look 40... (though i havent experience people telling me i look 40) i dont mind age is just numbers. if we look matured on our age that means wisdom. someitmes are face looks older than our real age but our hearts are younger.

Lately I had a surprise. A few weeks ago there were free cosmetics samples delivered in the gate of our office building. I got one sample and I told my colleagues about it and let them to get it, too. However, none of them got a sample as they were told these samples were for 20 years old girl. I am quite surprised to it. As I am already 32

Well at the age of 34 I get commented mostly to be younger than 34. That's me up there on the picture you tell me how old I look in that picture taken just last year. Once I went to pick up my daughters report card the professor said I need your parent not your sister. Then my daughter said she's my mom. Another incident was when I was in Puerto Galera we met these guys who thought I was 23 and another guy thought I was 18. When we told them my age they don't want to believe. I guess it's because they are foreigners they can't distinguish our age here. Well it is flattering to get a younger than your age comment.

I've always had this issue, though it's always people assuming I'm younger than I am. I'm blessed with a very young appearance, and while most people will grant that I'm at least 21, that's usually how old most people guess that I am. Well, suffice it to say that my 21st birthday was more than a decade ago. :) People tend to not believe me, though. :)

Most of the time, people think I'm a lot younger than I really am. I'm already 22, I have to have my IDs with me when going out to bars because I'd get stopped at the entrance with a "No minors allowed". I'd slap them with my driving license, passport, birth certificate if I could. While buying tickets for a R-13 film, I was leaning at the counter of the ticket booth and was asked how old I was! I was already 19 that time! My parents' friends always think I'm the youngest even if I'm older than my youngest brother by 4 years. The way I dress plus my height make people think i'm a lot younger.

I think that I look about my age, which is 17. I am only 5 foot tall so this makes me look young. Yet I can get in some bars which are for 18 year olds, but I get ID'd in others so I must just look 18. Since it is only a year off, I would say that I look my age.
