There are many contradictions in the bible and it doesn't take much to find them. Yes some could be explained away by being copy errors or translation errors from over the years. Others can be said to be due to different writers and they were human so made mistakes. One doesn't know and we might never know. For those who believe what is there it's the belief that is important. Just like any book one has to look at it's sources and determine for themselves what to make of it. Should we take it all word for word? I don't know. I wouldn't but I know some do. I think it can be a valuable tool to teach lessons and guidelines but I don't think it's the only one out there either.
Of course the contradictions could be there on purpose. It could be God's way or who ever wrote them to make us think. To make humanity wonder and to question. After all as humans we were given a brain that is curious and is designed for higher abilities. Perhaps the bible is just a way to get us to use those abilities.

thanks for the comment ereraldise, i like when u said that we were given brain to think. yes, u r right, thats why i think that Jesus was a mortal prophet. Among the contradictions, there's contradiction about whether Jesus was a mortal prophet or a God. We cannot accept both or else we are deluded, that must be one fact and another was a fiction. But there's more verses that stated Jesus as a mortal prophet, and the idea about his divinity, which invented later was irrelevant and comparing the verses might help us to use our brain wisely to decide whether Jesus was a prophet or son of God. Whatever you believe, thanks again for the comment.

I have no clear knowledge as to whether Jesus was just a prophet or if he was the son of a god. I think what is more important are the messages he tried to give us. The knowledge he shared and the teachings he left us. The rest I think is up to our interpretation.

Since Bible is considered as a holy book by the Christian people, it is also a fact that a lot of human touch has been made to it. I am a muslim and our belief also mentions about the belief of christian people.
God (Allah) says that Jesus was sent to this world by the mothership of Maria and there is no father. It is just to show that Allah is able to do anything by saying "happen". In Quran it strongly mentions that "Don't be one of the people who consider Allah as the father of him" (my english translation might have some different words from the original).
Quran mentions that Jesus was a prophet. He was the prophet before Mohammad. Also says that Jesus told the first christians about Mohammad. (He was told by Allah) Jesus was NOT a son of God, but a man just like all of us. (and all other prophets were men like all of us, the only difference was their patience, belief and being very good hearted people)
In addition, Gabriel is an angel in our belief. Nothing more, nothing less. Gabriel is the angel which sends messages from god to the prophet. All of the prophets have recieved some messages via Gabriel or in their dreams.
All the prayers should be for God, not jesus nor gabriel because they are all created by God's will. They don't have the will to make stuff real for you but God does.
And the Pope. Pope doesn't speak to god because only prophets do(If he says he speaks, I am not sure though). Additionally, nobody can confess your sins. Nobody has a will strong enough to do that, only Allah. So you should pray to God and mention you are sorry and regretful. If you are sincere enough, God will accept this. Nobody can stand between the man and the god. This tie is so special.
Why did I tell all these things? Because I am learnt that Bible has changed a lot since the original. In addition, the first bible was out 200 years later of the time when God took Jesus to his place. That means the men had an important role on the writings on it. In addition, you already should have heard the things in the middle age. How the aristocracy used religion for their own advantage is widely known and couldn't have they changed a little as they liked?
I think Quran is more up to date when compared to Bible but I can't say Quran is never changed by human. The Islam religion was under rule of the people who killed grandsons of Mohammad(sav). So, I think they might have effected the origins of Islam.
As an Alavi muslim I believe that way. Alavi Muslims are a little percentage of all Muslims and Sunni Muslims are the most. They are usually trying to keep us silent about the facts.

the_ruler, thanks for your comments, and its true that Jesus was a mortal prophet and the Holy Spirit was the angel Gabriel. And thanks again for introducing your Alevi Islamic to me. I know about it already ;) And about the history of Quran,
"After the demise of the Holy Prophet, the first Caliph Hadhrat Abu Bakr (PBUH) assembled all the Huffaz and the written records of the Holy Quran and with their help had the whole text written in Book form. In the time of Hadhrat Uthman (PBUH) copies of this original version were made and officially dispatched to the Capitals of the Islamic World. Two of these copies exist in the world today, one in Istanbul and the other in Tashkent."
As far as i know, there's no contradiction in the current Holy Quran. Though there's claims about some (hehe, bit of) contradictions by Christian side, but its proved that thats was their lies by using different translations and order of verses to confuse people. In contrast, there's tons of clear contradictions in the Bible, found by Christian, Atheist, and Muslim scholars.
Thanks again for your ur comment, with best regards.

You do know that the king james version was rewritten by king james. The man probably struggled with memory issues or something similar. lol. Ignoring that, as these contridictions also exist in the rest of the bible, the errors were probably due to the fact the bible was written and interpreted by many people many years after Jesus left this world so the people, as they are not holy or perfect, messed up. Some things are symbolic too. Four days does not always literally mean four days. Often time was estimated too. These people were trying to remember things that happened before they were born so they are basing it on stories they may or may not correctly remember. And that is the original version, the versions of today have been rewritten and modified so much that they can hardly be considered to be holy anymore. They are man's opinion of God's opinion rather than God's actual opinion.

Just as Constantine put the bible together to suit his needs, so did James. The only difference was james could have all non KJB texts destroyed. it is suspected that Constantine destroyed the only known copies at the time of several hundred possible bible books that didn't suit him.

runner, im totally agree with u and i like when u said that "They are man's opinion of God's opinion rather than God's actual opinion." very agree with that ;)
I would like to add another interesting contradiction found by Jim Meritt about
The GENEALOGY OF JESUS;
In two places in the New Testament the genealogy of Jesus son of Mary is mentioned. Matthew 1:6-16 and Luke 3:23-31. Each gives the ancestors of Joseph the CLAIMED husband of Mary and Step father of Jesus. The first one starts from Abraham(verse 2) all the way down to Jesus. The second one from Jesus all the way back to Adam. The only common name to these two lists between David and Jesus is JOSEPH, How can this be true? and also How can Jesus have a genealogy when all Muslims and most Christians believe that Jesus had/has no father.
And i would like to thanks u again for your constructive comment, with best regards.

"The identity of a book's author can sometimes give great insight into its meaning and intent. Some of the books of the Bible have easily identifiable authors while others remain a MYSTERY to this very day. The list below provides a key to PROBABLE Biblical authorship."
the Quote above was taken from :
Who were the authors of the Bible and when did they write?
http://www.blueletterbible.org/faq/authors.html
you will Notice That "probably written" , "likely written" & "unknown author" In the Page upon the attempt to answer the previous question :
Who were the authors of the Bible and when did they write?
and It is True That there is Tons of Contradictions In the Bible, You Have Mentioned some Examples of them.

Hello Gordano,
Thanks for the link,
I would like to add though there's many contradictions in the Bible, but we as human which granted a brain and mind by God, we must use our brain to think wisely. Its fact that its very hard to determine which 1 is true on those contradictions if its regarding numbers, but if its about the status of individuals or the location etc, we might be able to "break the code" if we do analysis on the verses, for example ;)
#
in
Matthew 21:11
"And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee."
John 13:16
".....The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him."
JESUS WAS A son of GOD or HUMAN???
Luke 4 (American Standard Version)
:1
"And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness
:2
during forty days, being tempted of the devil...."
then in
James 1:13 (American Standard Version)
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, no man:
(this clear that Jesus wasn't God)
and we know thats so many proofs in the Bible that Jesus wasn't a God, but a mortal prophet instead, and Holy Spirit was the Angel Gabriel. Being deluded by the verses error and Trinity doctrine is no good.
Anyway, thanks again for the comment ;)

I think it comes down to the fact that the bible was originally spoken - then written by many different men, with different perspectives, and different memories, and different emphasis on the stories. And even once it was written it was copied many times through the years, and each time there is potential for human error.

Yes schilds, i could agree with you, God, unlike creatures, is perfect, so his words must be perfect and no contradictions on it. It's true that the Bible was rewritten and copied many times, in fact, the THE AUTHORS OF THE FOUR GOSPELS never met Jesus (pbuh). Read this quote;
"Biblical scholars estimate that the Gospel of Mark was written around 70, the Gospel of Matthew around 80, the Gospel of Luke around 90, and the Gospel of John around 90-100. The other books of the New Testament were written around the same time. These books of the New Testament began to be written down around 30 to 35 years after the ascension of Prophet Jesus (pbuh) into the sight of God. Moreover, the canonical Gospel as we know it today consists of writings that were selected from hundreds of selected texts and was established only at he Council of Nicaea."
Anyway, thanks for your comment, hava nice day!

The reason the liniage seems diferent is becouse the early church tried to hide from the people. The second liniage is actualy the liniage of Mary.
