Saving money on Prescriptions

I don't have insurance so going to the doctor is expensive enough without the cost of expensive drugs. Now I was lucky to find a way to save money on my medications. It's called "Your RxCard". Now I'm sure you are thinking "What's the cost" and "How much can it save me?". Well it's free. Yeah surprised me too. It is only for those who don't have an insurance to cover the medication but it does work. To give you and example I took my meds to be filled at Wal-Mart in November. Now the perscriptions were for Darvocet and the other for prednisone. The prednisone is one of Wal-Marts $4 ones but the darvocet cost me $75. So the total came to $79. I got the Your RxCard and used it when I got them refilled in January. I went in hoping maybe it would take a few dollars off. My total, for the same things was a whole $24.11. That was a $55 savings, for a free card. All I have to do is give it to the pharmacy for them to record and then when I get the meds I have to sign that no other insurance covers them. My sister got it because some of her meds aren't covered under medicare and it's saved her as well. Nice huh? You can check it out at yourrxcard.com You put in the info and print out the card, that's all there is to it. The other way I do save money is by checking out different places. Wal-Mart and Sam's Club have their $4 meds but one store near us, Publix has free antibiotics. That one surprised me. Their pharmacy has a list of about 10 basic antibiotics that you can get for free. So how do you save money on prescriptions? If you have insurance that can be great but if not how do you manage to get the meds you need and still pay for anything else?

That's really awesome! I'm so glad that there is things out there like that!!! I will have to let my mom know about it. She's on so much medication that even with their crappy insurance it's hard for her and my step dad to keep up with them all. We don't have a Publix around. That is really neat that they do that :) Though I think that all necessary medications should be free...but that's just me. LOL

It surprised me how much it saved me. Made my life a lot easier because money is very tight. I know for my parents it can be hard with all the meds my dad is on. Some thankfully they can get at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club for the $4 but far too many of them cost a lot more even with medicare. I agree I think basic meds should be free or at least at a reasonable amount. A friend of mine one of her meds costs for a month $300 for one medication that is taken twice a day. That's beyond silly in my book. Now with her insurance she doesn't pay that much but without insurance there is no way she could afford it. I'd love to see some sort of health system come into this country where we can at least get basic medical care and medicines without worry.

We have printed off a list of the prescriptions available at walmart for $4.00 and take it to the Dr with us. When we need a prescription we ask if they can prescribe one from the list then we ask for a one month and a three month prescription. We use the three month at walmart and get it for $10. and keep the one month in case we have to buy it locally.
