I went to the dentist yesterday, it has been several years since I have gone other then for emergency work. So first off they do a bunch of xrays, then clean the teeth. Then the dentist comes in and throws around a lot of stuff that I don't understand about what I need done. I have dental insurance now so the kaching-kaching part was not too loud (thankfully)
Then they tell me they have doc who will do nitrous oxide but of course the next appt she has available is not for almost 2 months..by then I will have gums instead of teeth.
I have gone out cold due to pain, when I asked the dentist to stop, he told me to suck it up, I was fine.
What are your dental experiences? Do you dread it? How do you cope?

debs place I have had it with dentists. the last one was a chinese woman who refused to give me more deadener and hurt me so bad I was in tears and she had no sympathy at all and refused'
to finish a root canal unless I gaveher five hundred in cash which I did not have. so here I am with a lot of dental work that needs to be done and scared silly to go back to any dentist after having been that badly hurt. I will need proof that the next dentist doesnt have a thing about loving to hear patients scream in pain.

I have Trigeminal Neuralgia and before I was diagnosed I was going to the dentist thinking it was a tooth problem. Well, I told one guy to stop, I can't stand the pain. He told me to suck it up. I passed up, I woke up and he was done.
I sat in the parking lot and cried for 45 minutes. One of the receptionists came out and told me to leave or the DOc would not see me again. Like I would go there again!
It is now about 10 years later, I am a new dentist and there is the receptionist who apologized for what she had said to me because he made her.
I know exactly how you feel. I talk with many people going in and out of the dentist office to get their opinion on the dentist before I make and appointment.

Dentist is one person I dont want to deal with. When my friend was studying her dental medicine, I usually acted as one of her patient. Its good, I have free dental cleaning and the like. She also have done my root canal and so far everything is alright. I should have all my teeth done by root canal so I dont have bad theeth that need to be extracted. Now that shes workig abroad I am seeing my dentist whom I am not comfortable with. I hope I can find a good dentist like my friend.

I have a great dentist, lucky me. I have dental insurance, but it still goes at a high cost. Partly because I did not have insurance for awhile, and other things always seemed more important. I keep having to learn that expensive lesson over and over.Take care of the small problems. An example of how great my dentist is: One of his hygienists hurt me doing a cleaning.I have three bridges to clean under. I never had to have that hygienist again, in fact the dentist himself cleaned my teeth for the next two or three cleanings. This was not the first time something along that order happened. When I got my first bridge, a technician installed it, it was terribly painful and uncomfortable. After hearing that my dentist installed the next two himself. A world of difference, let me tell you. Having dentistry work does not have to hurt.

I have very bad teeth because I am soooo afraid to go to dentist. This was not always the case. When I was in High School I loved to go because my dentist was very good looking and I had a small crush on him. But one day he gave me too much gas and I got sick all over him, it was sooo embarassing. Needless to say I never went back to him. As I got older I had to find a new dentist and I liked the one I found, he seemed to do a good job no pain at all. I was in getting a filing and he gave me a shot and all of a sudden I could feel it shooting through my nose and ended up swallowing the novacaine.I told him right away and asked if it would make me sick. He said I don't know that has never happened before. I hav'nt been back since.

Nitrous Oxide is my best friend at the dentist. Give me laughing gas or don't touch me. I do not see why it will take two months. I suggest that you at least attempt to find another dentist while you are waiting. I have had too many dental nightmares to name.
Once I needed a root canal and my tooth was hurting so bad that I could not pull my t-shirt over my head. I hard to cut the neck of the shirt away to get it off. Before I even found out what was wrong with the tooth, I had broke my leg and could not leave the house for two weeks.
It was the first time I had ever broken a bone in my body and the first time I needed a root canal. I was taking all the pain medication I could get my hands on. I was a mess. Don't let it get too bad, find another dentist as soon as you can. Maybe if you call your insurance company they can give you a referral.

I have never really had any bad dentist visits. The worst procedure I got was from one dentist gave me caps on my two front teeth. I smashed them out and when he went to do the caps over a few week period the tint of the teeth faded and was quite bad. Looked horrible so I would have to go back and get them smashed out then redone. I since moved to a different dentist and the work they have done has been beautiful. I am truly happy now that I got a new dentist to do the work and I have had these full caps for over 8 years and they are still white and look great. No problems since then.

I sure do have to thank my mom for finding me this dentist. If she didn't like going to yard sales or garage sales I would never of know how beautiful of work this guy does.

I had a really bad tooth that giving me so much hassle and pain and it was really sensitive and it was upsetting the other teeth, so I went to my dentist who gave me the choice of root canal filling or having it out, so I quickly said get it out!!!! It was cheaper and less painful option. Well it took the dentist over an HOUR to get that tooth out, the roots were embedded in the jaw and it was like a spoof comedy with him snapping at the tooth, but do you think it would shift? He had put me in the waiting room as it was getting crowded by now! Anyhow he had another go and said to me gruffy I should have insisted you had root canal. Well he pulled and tugged, remember that story The Giant Turnip? Well it was laughable, my mouth was hurting and the anaesthetic was starting to wear off, and eventually root by root, there were three in total it finally came out!

My dentist told me the first time I visited him that he had nitrous oxide available if I ever wanted or needed it. Most of the time I am okay. I go in every six months for a cleaning because that is what my insurance will pay. It has been several years since I had a cavity so I keep brushing and flossing and getting my teeth cleaned to avoid getting cavities and fillings.

It wasn't me who had a bad experience with our dentist. It was my son he had to have some work done and she numbed his mouth then left him for about 15 minutes. Then called him back in and started to work on him he screamed his mouth wasn't numbed properly it was ovbious he was in alot of pain. She numbed his mouth again and this time it did take. He was very sore afterwards. Now i can not get my son to go to the dentist. Have even told him that we would would change dentisits but he still refuses to go.
