The Hives are for people who like their music fast, loud, and furiously havotic. Is is chaotic, yet full of great life. It is punk at best. With melodies and lyrics that are as catchy as a baseball, it makes you feel good. Thankfully, The Hives don't play the kind of music that is the norm. Theirs is not pop inspired but is serious in a silly way. With lyrics that border on a comedic experience, they rock you and make you laugh all at the same time. Once, you expose The Hives to your ear canals you will not be able to deny the splendid and outstanding way that they rock. Their rock is refreshing and undeniably reminiscent of the past. The Hives are a group of wild and crazy fellows, that best of all are oozing with bazaar type coolness. Their musical revelries are refreshing to hear and very much energetic. When this musical disk came out, they were part of a group that media types dubbed as the next saviors of rock. A group consisting of the bands.. White Stripes, The Vines, and The Strokes. While it seems that much of that was greatly hype, these bands do create great music. Even if the The Hives have remained in relative obscurity, they still are better than the usual music that is frequently hear on the radio. Following the bands previously mentioned they are eccentric and keep up the image that makes rock stars the weird and strange people that they are. In the beginning of the bands journey, The White Stripes, would dress only in red and white colors and kept (or at least remained aloof) to them self's about whether they were siblings or a married couple. (Turned out... that they were married once, got divorced and Jack White the lead singer had just adopted his former wife's' (Meg White) last name.. White) Now, in recent times the Whites dress in the most southern strange clothing you cant think of with Jack White wearing his mustache like Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean" When it comes to The Vines, the lead singer is high 24/7, (he cant stop telling about it in his interviews) and is widely noted for having a strict rule about having a bong around in a plastic bag, at arm reach at all times. That and he is known for not showering for days at a time.(That fact is not rock starish its just gross....) The singer for The Strokes enjoys acting drunk while he sings, even though he admits half the time hes well and sober. With all that then we can add the strange act that is The Hives. The Hives are Swedish man that love to act flamboyant. They are always out of control rockers who love to be self indulgent. In an MTV music award the lead singer said: "That the end of our show.. so you can turn off your television now..." Saying that even if the show was far from over. All these bands are widely popular and rock out.. so if being strange makes for good music, then hit me up side my head with the bazaar stick. Because The Hives in "Veni Vidi Vicious" sure make good rocking music. Now, let me proceed to mildly elaborate on what you can expect from THE HIVES- VENI VEDI VICIOUS album. Also why it is you should buy it. The main reason I think for you to purchase "Veni Vidi Vicious", is the fact that it is high energy, makes your body jump, raw powered awesome music. To put it in non creative words.. it rock.. hard. Plus, in most places you can find The Hive albums to be very low in cost. That I think is always a good thing.. Specially if the music is full of good taste to the hears. The songs in this album are the type of songs that make you want to run in circles and jump around like you just drank two RED BULLS back to back. This is feel good music, that make you wanna shake yo groove tang. Its outrageously fun. This is a great album and you need not be a fan of the punk genre or The Hives for that matter. That's because this album in comparison to most of their albums, is better. It is a complete album, that has not only great creativity but also great fluidity. It flows well from beginning to end. All with the exception of one song.. (Another Girl)nothing could be considered changeable in an after thought. VENI VIDI VICIOUS is The Hives having a great time and them letting us in on the fun. (Down below are quick takes on what makes these songs so great ) (QUICK NOTE: While these guys are from Sweden all the songs are in understandable english) 1. THE HIVES - DECLARE GUERRE NUCLEAIRE [1:35] As you can see this song is less than a couple minutes long. Yet it sure packs a mighty punch. The song has the energetic punch to begin the chaotic experience. BEST TIME TO LISTEN : WHILE DRIVING "THIS IS FAST PACE MUSIC, THAT SHOULD BE ENJOYED IN FAST PACE DRIVING" - ZeN (disclaimer.. ZeN is not responsible for any wrong actions that you take with music or vehicles. If you hit a light post because of speeding and listening.. you are on your own buddy.) BEST LYRIC : "AND FOR THE 5...7...9...AND 11" (might not seem like a good lyric but check out the song, and you'll find it to be a melodically charming line) 2. DIE, ALL RIGHT! [2:46] A song about a man getting a job and finally having money in his pocket. All this at the expense of selling his soul (In a figurative way of course) to the company. This song takes intensity to a higher lever and turns the non stop rocking, up another notch.) BEST TIME TO LISTEN : DANCING "THIS RHYTHMICALLY GREAT SONG MAKES YOU WANNA SHAKE YO BODY (Not mention yo butte)" - ZeN BEST LYRIC : "SOLD MY BODY TO THE COMPANY SO, I GOT MONEY NOW AWAY I GO, I SAY THANK YOU MR. CEO" 3. A GET TOGETHER TO TEAR IT APART [2:51] Not too sure what this song is about. All I do know is that what ever it is, it sure sounds good. Very fast pace song and is a pleasure to listen to. (I think they mean musically tear it apart or like having fun at a party) BEST TIME TO LISTEN : BIKE RIDING "IT MOTIVATES YOU TO JUST KEEP THE PEDDLES MOVING" - ZeN BEST LYRIC : "AND ITS A GET TOGETHER TO TEAR IT APART, GAVE MY MIDDLE FINGER A BRAND NEW START" 4. MAIN OFFENDER [2:33] This is by far the best song in this c.d. It holds the greatest energy and feeling. Also holds the best lyrical structured song in the album. Basically in this song he is speaking about his main offender. Who is that you might ask? Im not telling. Gotta hear it its cool. BEST TIME TO LISTEN : ANY ANGRY TIME "JUST YELL,SCREAM,OR SOFTLY WHISPER THIS SONG AND IT LETS ALL YOUR AGGRESSION OUT" - ZeN BEST LYRIC: "IM STUCK IN WAYS OF SADISTIC JOYS AND MY TALENT ONLY GOES AS FAR AS TO ANNOY, IM ON MY WAY" 5. OUTSMARTED [2:21] Don't you just love it when you can rub things in people's faces? Well.. o.k. maybe not but... But at least the hives are having fun doing so. BEST TIME TO LISTEN : CLEANING YOUR HOME "THIS WILL KEEP YOU CLEANING EVEN AFTER YOUR DONE BECAUSE THE SONG HAS NOT FINISHED" - ZeN BEST LYRIC : "YOU USED TO BE THE KID WHO WAITED IN LINE. FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO WASTE TIME. TRYING TO BE SO COOL BUT NO SUSPICION.. NO CLUE" 6. HATE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO [3:19] At 3 minutes... this is one of the longest song and best songs in the album. This is high energy at its best. This one plays better to crowds also because its not all about rocking crazy but also gives a little extra lyrical flavor. When you hear it, it will be loud, fast, and furious. Then you'll say it was surprising.. well then Ill have to say.. I hate to say I told you... BEST TIME TO LISTEN: ANY TIME YOU WANNA SAY "I TOLD YOU SO!"- ZeN BEST LYRIC: "DO BELIEVE I TOLD YOU SOOO" 7. THE HIVES INTRODUCE THE METRIC SYSTEM IN TIME Now their is nothing better than a song about the metric system (especially when its a love type song) well this one is both. Its a weird cool type of thing. It totally works in The Hives kind of way. BEST TIME : WHILE DOING MATH "ITS ALWAYS A GOOD TIME TO HEAR A SONG ABOUT THE METRIC SYSTEM BUT EVEN BETTER WHEN DOING MATH" - ZeN BEST LYRIC: "WHO NEW ID BE THE ONE PULLING OFF THE PERFECT CRIME, SO HERE'S MY NEW LINE, ILL CHANGE YOUR MIND AND THE NEW METRIC SYSTEM OF TIME" 8. FIND ANOTHER GIRL [3:12] I just wanna say that this song is way out of place in this album. It is a strong sounding ballad that seems like it was just thrown in the middle of a rock out session. I got mad because it just disrupted the whole flow of the album. Plus, the song in it of itself, is rather annoying and redundant. BEST TIME: NEVER OR WAIT.. NO I WAS RIGHT NEVER BEST LYRIC: N/A 9. STATECONTROL [1:53] "Veni Vidi Vicious" is a musical disk full of anthems and this song is the best of the bunch. The main point of this song is to sing a certain line over and over. Its infectiously intriguing. BEST TIME : "GOTTA PLAY IT WHEN YOU WANT TO.. TAKE CONTROL OF THE STATE... OR FELLING A LITTLE BIT NUTZO.." - ZeN BEST LYRIC : " I CANT CONTROL THE STATE THAT IM IN, (GO BACK IN LINE AND REPEAT IT AGAIN), I CANT CONTROL THE STATE THAT IM IN, (GO BACK IN LINE AND REPEAT AGAIN)" 10. INSPECTION WISE 1999 I don't know what the name of the song means but the guitar intro. is awesome and the best intro of all the songs. I love it. It is another high energy song. This song is o.k. at first even weird but after a while It grows on you to the point were you become afraid of becoming a musical mutation. BEST TIME: TAKING A SHOWER "YOU JUST DANCE AROUND NAKED TO THIS SONG AND ITS THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD" - ZeN BEST LYRIC : "DO YOU KNOW THE SECRET HANDSHAKE- YOU BEST USE IT. HERE THEY COME WITH RINGING EARS- SOCIAL MISFITS" 11. KNOCK KNOCK When you get to this song you stop and realize how good, The Hives' sound really is.
